    Default Newspaper graphic?

I've seen this done before, but I'm not sure how they went about it. I've been looking up paper meche recipes to stick it to the board. What have other people done?

Also, I was wondering what I should cover it with so it won't slip off the board when water splashes up on it.

    Thank you in advance!

If you hit it with several layers of spary-on clearcoat, it should end up being pretty durable. Whenever I do something with the bottom of my board, I hit it with layer after layer of that stuff, and it serves me well.

    Hope that helps,

just hit with poly acrylic, and wet sand like normal. it should work. i dont thing you should just use normal starch, because it might not adhere to the board enough.

you could even use the poly acrylic to attach the paper. just wet it out wit that. then do 3 or 4 more coats, and wet sand.

Also, you could wheat-paste the newspaper onto your board first and then hit it with some layers of the clearcoat mentioned above. You can look up a recipe for wheat paste but when I'm making it I usually do 3/4 white glue and 1/4 water with a little bit of sugar in it and that works fine.

So just paste it on with the mixture of white glue, water and sugar then use clear coat over it. Got it.

Should I sand the board first>? It's been painted black with semi gloss oil-based paint.

I don't think it really matters...wheat-paste will stick paper to any surface.

I don't know anything about board-building, by wheat paste do you mean wheat mixed with water?

poster adhesive works better than wheatpaste, IMO.

for newspaper, i would just use a spray adhesive, then a few coats of clear over it, or a matte finish sealer for a more au-naturale look.

I decided to go with a simple elmers glue + some water at a 1 to 4 ratio.

So does anyone have any brandname clearcoat brands that I can ask the guy at the hardware store for?

is the clearcoat stuff spray on? Or spread it over the board with a brush?

and on another note, bad news; I got meche-ing, going okay, I picked the board up and put it under my arm to put it outside to dry, board slipped, caught my finger tip, and took off a shitload of the paper. So I just have to take it slower.

lastley, anyone have any ideas for getting the warp-marks out of the paper? Maybe less water, more glue?

I get Minwax polycric at Walmart for something like $10 a quart. This is the paint-on stuff. The spray-on is like $7 a can, and you can barely do one board with that much.

Might be a little late, but I don't know that you necessarily need to use glue at all. I recently regripped and re-finished my board, and accidentally got a little newspaper stuck on the deck when the finish was wet. I'm lazy and don't particularly care about the cosmetics of my board anymore, so I just went ahead and continued laying down finish over it. It's still there. You can't even feel it when you run your fingers over it.

The blank part of the paper wetted out and went clear, but the text and colors stayed. I don't know if that's what you're going for, but it looks kinda cool.

I just dipped it in clear coat, and put a thin layer over the bear wood. After dipping the paper in the clear coat i just layed it on over a wet deck, waited for it to dry, splattered the paint, then added more clear coat. its been holding up fine
