i dont see any reason why that wood wouldnt work. i would go for 3-5 layers depending on the length/flex you want. but i dont know why you would buy so much wood, knowing nothing about the wood or how to build a board. but you've got a lot of it so you might as well put it to use. you have plenty of material for trail and error

but really.... why the heck would you buy so much wood without knowing what kind it was, or even the exact dimensions???

Experiment, make prototypes do something instead of asking lame questions. Your the one with the load of wood, you figure it out. Your next post should be the first board you make from it. That what I want to see. Succeed or fail, you can always try again.

And why did you get so much if you dont know what your doing?

well I didn't actually buy the wood. my dad did. he wants to use some of it but is going to have ALOT!!!! left. he got it from work.they build benches and stuff like that for local citys and had a misorder of all of this wood. so they sold this and about 50 2x6 planks that are 3 " thick on an auction for $50!!!! each 2x6x3 plank is worth $5 each so even if it all goes to waste we still got a deal. so I PERSONLY did not buy this wood. i wasnt going to build a board till next winter but now i got all this wood to use. also i dont know what kind of wood it is because my dad forgot what it was. he thinks its either maple or oak. and yes i do have experience in wood working. i just havent built a deck before.

if it is oak will it work as good as any other wood or is it too weak.

If its used for furniture, it will be fine.

Unless this place makes furniture for Ikea.

That's a whole lot of frikkin wood!!!! I'd do 4 or 5 layers and a stringer or fibreglass. Try a stringer first I reckon.

you could do 3 layers with reasonable wheelbase and be perfectly fine, i made boards out of similar stuff and they worked fine

Holy crap! That looks like thin sawn solid ash and super high quality too! I've paid over a hundred bucks for ten pieces of that stuff from a specialty lumber supplier. I think you might have a couple of thousand bucks worth of wood there--hard to be sure just from the pics.

It looks a little thicker than 1/8 inch--maybe 3/16th? If it is solid ash, it will make a great deck. For your weight I would use two plies lengthwise with one cross ply sandwiched in the middle for a deck with nice flex. If you want a stiff deck, use three plies lengthwise but still only one crossply Just crosscut a piece into short sections and piece them together for the crossply. It will take quite a bit of press pressure to press it into a shallow concave if that's what you want but I bet you can do it without it splitting. Ash bends a lot better than maple but that stuff does look a bit thick for aggressive bends.

So tell me that's solid ash! I'll buy some from you--where you located?

Dang. I'm looking at the pics again. Is it a thin veneer decorative plywood used for wall paneling? If that's what it is then it's no good for anything structural--just decorative.

your right it has no plies. it is one ply and is VERY flexy. if it is a veneer i have other uses but im not sure on exatly what it is.

tell me if you want some more pics and from what angles and i will get some. I wanna know if i can build a board out of this stuff.

even if i cant i do have other uses for it, i was just wondering if it was any good
