    Default snowboard to longboard conversion

wow, I did this really cool thing today, took a very old burton air series snowboard, draw the form of the supaflex dragon 120 on it, took a saw, and made a longboard...
it rides very well, just a little too much flex...
but hey, I;'ve never ridden a board with much flex, so I just have to get jused to it, but when i was making a run down a litle hill it gave me the feeling as if it wanted to throw me of in every turn, right now I'm quite used to that feeling, and because of it you can make realy sharp turns...
still have one of those snowboards left, does any of you guys have any sugestions on how to make an even more rideable board out of it??
It\'s nice to be important, But its more important to be nice

I have a friend how found an old snowboard in a dumpster. It was about 6'+ and he put some trucks in wheels on it. It was so flexy that he had to put bolts through the centre so it wouldn't wear through while riding the middle.
He used to get up speed then stand on the middle and grab the nose and tail us so he slid on the bolts.

Go here http://www.silverfishlongboarding.co...opic.php?t=464 for my version. Also way too flexy.
I was thinking of getting some two inch wide by one sixteenth thick steel strap, and bolting it (with the truck bolts) to the base. Haven't tried it yet, though... no steel.

Grind that deck and laminate some carbon on it!

OOps forgot... not everybody has carbon. The metal isn't a bad idea...
How about you pop-rivet a sheet of aluminum to the thing! Epoxy it at the same time. Or you could screw it to the deck wit epoxy as well... :hmm:

A mate of mine did something similar. But he attached a top layer of marine ply with a s@&t load of resin. G-clamped into place and then used a ratchet system to create the camber!

He finally got round to putting grip tape on last weekend and its a sweet ride!

Have decided to start cutting again... gonna make a 32" slalom board out of it. At that length, flex will be there only when you pump it!

this is very good timing, because i have a snowboard downstaires that i've been thinking of cutting out for a while now... THeres got to be a prettier way to strengthen it... Steel strap would work, but it would also be very heavy, (as if the snowboard material isnt heavy enough! :P)
Carbon fibre would be great, except i havent the foggiest about where to get it... hmmmm.... options options...

Is a jigsaw enough to cut the board? The pre-season sales are coming up soon, and thrashed and trashed boards will be on sale for super-cheap!

I used a jigsaw, but it took 5 blades to do the job!

Did you use one to get through the metal edging, or did it take, say four blades to get through that and one through the rest? I should have added that on to my last one! Sorry!

No way, dude... I drilled starter holes at tip and tail. It took those blades to get through the p-tex, 'glass, and ply.

i know this tred is dead since a long time but yea i got a good idea for a good snowboard longboard
(using only the midle and strongest part of the board and screwing bent metal bar on each side to mount the trucks and to make the board a bit lower) and maybe adding a piece of the tail and nose of the snowboard on the ends ,screwed with the trucks

humm! now i have to decide if i cut my crappy but only snowboard :S

this is a cool and relevant thread and he acknowledged what he was doing and gave a reason. it's better than making a new thread and sometimes some real gems are revived so don't be an ass.

I did this on an old snowboard, and honestly it sucked. your idea sounds pretty cool though.

in the end I put some mountainboard bindings and extra coarse gator on it (it grips wet shoes even when there is snow on the grip! super gnar!) and found a steep snowy slope and busted out 50+ foot heelside standers for hours, super easy even for someone who doesn't snowboard like myself. /coolstory
