End of Year Board Builder's Build-Off contest. It's go time!
So I'm running late getting this out but here it is....
It's Go Time!!!!
For those that don't know that means it's time to start building boards to enter in the latest Board Builder's Online Build Off Contest.
Here's how it works (a review). You the contestant builds a board from scratch (Press it, shape it, finish it). Then when the designated time comes and the thread is made for entries, you post a picture of your entry. Then at the designated time a poll thread is made and we all vote on what we think is the best board. Most votes wins. Easy enough. Right?
NO promise of prizes. This is all for the fun of it, bragging rights and betterment of skateboarding in general.
So start building if you haven't started already. Entry thread will go up December 21 and the Voting starts December 31 and the poll runs until the 7th of January.
Prizes
Gallon of Titebond III (SF Donation)
2 sets of 7ply 1/16 hard maple veneer with shipping (http://www.roarockit.com/d_builder.php Donation)
So don't procrastinate! With the holidays, finals and winter coming I know building times can be tight. So get a buildin! I hope to see lots of great entries this time around.
As always, your loving

Just thinking out loud...
I think it's a great idea, I'm all about form before function, but how would this even work since we're all spread out?

I like the cateogry thing that we did a while back, most technical, best design, best finish, etc. Having one overall winner doesn't make a lot of sense to me :\

most experiment could be cool... whether it be board materials (carbon, fibreglass, texalium, s-glass, lexan, kevlar, honeycomb, etc)... or just board shape and design (camber, concave, rocker, wedging, convex, pocketed trucks {flushcutted}, drop deck, etc)
now THAT would have some awesome final entries

Following up with the categorical contest idea, there should be a "rookie award" for someone who has entered the contest for the first time.

Would that be because some people do nice finish jobs on the boards ? :P , but seriously i am function over form, i just like to do a good job on the finishing.
Anyways nothing crazy from me this time, just drew up a pintail design seriously 5 mins ago, so no crazy things from me just a classic pintail for the holeys comming in the mail
as for the different sections thing that would work only if we had 40+ entries, or like 30+ for like 3 differnt sections, but thats my opinion, like having the same amount of categories or .5 compared to the amount of entries dosent really work, the ratio in my mind need to be about 1:10 for categories to work so 10 entries minimum per category
The only competition in life is yourself, but be warned it loves to throw challenges in your face, just to make it a fun experience..

I agree. If there are a lot of entries then there should be different categories. If not, there should just be the overall winner. I agree with meaningoflife that there should be a rookie award.

The catagory thing is an idea I'd like to get back to but it was abandoned because we just didn't have enough people entering. If we continue to maintain a high level of participants maybe we can go back to it. So the more builders we get to enter the better these contests can get.
The idea of riding tests and comparisons has been brougth up since the begining but due to the Global participation and general "I want to skate my board, not send it away for someone else to skate it" sort of thinking it has been put aside. Someone on another site is trying to do such a contest. I'd love to see us do one one day too. Logistics. It's all about logistics.
Maybe it is time for the return of the "nicest finish" and the rookie award is not a bad idea. This will require a ponderance of a few days or so.
