I just finished making my first press. I used 3/4" plywood all the way around and had my ribs spaced at 3" each. It has taken me 1.5 days of sporatic work to complete it. I wouldn't say it's hard but I wouldnt say its easy either. It's really a learning experience and you know that the next press you build will be better. The more time and thought you put into the first one, will save some time down the road. The press I made has 1/2" of concave, 1.5" of camber, and a nice flowing kicktail. 48" long and 10" wide but the final decks probably will not be 10", rather 8-9". Good luck to you and yours.

I made mine with a oak plywood base and poplar struts, 4 inches apart.

It's easy to make, you just have to be consistant with things like the curve in the slats. It took me about 5 hours to make mine, but I have experience in woodworking and lots of tools.

do you think that the wood press would be strong enough to put in a shop press between two steel plates?

Sick press... but if you're a normal person and don't subsidize the clamp industry, you might want to try some 3/8 inch all thread with nuts instead.

We actually have twice as many clamps as shown in the pictures, they are an absolute neccessity for building fine furniture....and building longboards if applicable.

nice setup, what i'd do for some workshop space right now, my latest place is lame for press cutting and shaping. Although I did get myself a remel, should leave a nice fine layer of dust everywhere.

Just out of interest how much of that camber are you going to lose once its out the press, it looks like about a 4" camber maybe lose half?

check the sticky posts and USE the search function.
not to be a bum, but that is the most commonly discussed topic, and most people are sick of responding to it, so instead you will find faster better results using search

ive always been kinda shy to ask this- on the search is there a way to search just topics? I found a spot to change it to topic and text, or just text.
