Newest Board build + pics
So I've finally aquired all the nessisary materials for a high quality board. While this isn't technically my first board (its my 3rd), it is the first one built correctly. It's also the first one that actually looks good. I've put quite a bit of work into this board over the weekend, let me know what you think.
*edit - I forgot to add that it's made from a lamination of two 1/4" pieces of BBB Baltic Birch 5-ply. I've already stood on it, and it has a lot of flex, but not so much that I think its going to break.
Tip - if you want good stains, just run a knife along the edge of your mask and the stain will stop at the cut in the wood. It doesn't have to be deep, maybe 1/16" or so will do.

I'm using minwax polyurithane for the coating. I'm doing 3 coats each side and on the edges.

Just beautiful... how did you get your griptape job so perfect ?? Did you use traditional razor blades ?? How long did it take ?? Step by step would be awesome

I just drew out the design (in mirror image, I forgot that the first time doh!) on the back of the sheet of tape and then cut it out with a utility knife. I took about an hour to cover the whole top. It wasn't really that hard, definatly not as hard as I was afaid it was going to be. To get the even distribution from the edge of the board I traced the board onto the tape backing and then drew within the lines about 1/4" and cut along that line.

Yeah I know, the wood I got had some patches in it. Oh well, its the only place I could find baltic birch...and it was cheap too (with the student discount)!
