I think you may have a metal flake addiction.
Is there a MFAA chapter you can join?
So are you gonna start doing metal flake graphics? Some sort of collage maybe. Or Two tone metal flaking. A gradiant fade? Rainbow pinwheel?
Freebasing?
Snorting?

All of the above well except the last too, and who says that i havent started already . But it does make me wonder how many flakes i have actually taken up the nose by accident
i also got some other stuff in the mail the same time for doing the finishing on my boards, ive been playing with it and testing it out for the last day, but will have to wait awhile to see how it holds up over time, but my contest board will be using some either way (its nothing new on here by the way just want to work out the kinks and mabey drop something very nice on you all)

Hmmm... Metal Flake rocks. I used metal flake on a board project... Or attempted to... Somehow it ended up with the board having melted plastic adhere to it, followed by some paper towels with polyurethane begin to spontaneously combust and catch fire, then the board almost caught on fire... and lastly the board ended up cut in half...
I do not want to explain how it occurred...

By mixing it in your clearcoat. (but you have to bury it when many coats of normal clear so that you dont cut into it when wet sanding making it go to a chrome color
but the board im working on right now uses a different method that ive never tried so instead of the flake being sparkley from all most all angles, it lies down flat so you only get the sparkle from one angle, and it basically blinds you when it does, very neat and for its own occasions but the normal way gets it looking like that board that one the fall build off.
Oh and Iron Chef, depending on if things work out, think guitar finish for my next contest board

typically no
as many as needed untill you get the coverage you want (the trick thoe is to spray down a metallic paint the same color as the flake first, that way you only need one or two coats as you wont notice any areas where the wood might be poking through compared to the bazzillion coats you would need the other way inorder to cover up the wood/primer paint
Flames mabey one day, even thoe im a classic car-o-holic, i have seen flames done on absolutely everything, and i would just be jumping on the band wagon if i did , but possibly tribal flames (but it is very unlikely that i will do a board for myself with flames, only time i would do it is if someone requested and was hard set on it for the graphics being done to there custom board)
no i dont gum up my spray gun, but in order to shoot flake you have to have a spray gun with a large enough nozzle (most flake suppliers list what size nozzle you need to spary it), but there are also other ways to lay down flake also, one thing i would like to get is a spray gun that shoots Dry Flake , what you do is laydown a coat of clear and when its still wet you spray on the dry flake, this typically cuts the amount of flake you need to use by 40% and also take a huge chunk out of what you traditionally needed for clear coat, plus it makes the flake lie relatively flat so you wont need to put on as many coats of clear over top to bury it.
Oh and the little containers of flake are from a company called "Old Skool Flake" they are also the people who have the dry flake gun which i will get eventually($200us). You can also get flake from " House of Kolor", now i warn you it can get expensive as each one of those jars cost $15-20 bucks a pop, and $50-75 or so for the 6oz containers, and if you were really nuts you could go with the pearl kameleon flake, even thoe its very cool at a list price of $390us for 2oz of dry flake its a bit rediculous(yes i said $390 for 2oz).
But all that being said there is a company called Meadowbrook Inventions and i can say they are the main mill for all the normal style flakes, and other companys buy from them, as i have compared flake size/color/and cut and i can pretty well say they are from that company. So if you can find a supplier of the product in bulk style form such as in 1 to 1/2 pound jars/bags then you can dramatically cut costs (50-75%+)
And the main colored flake that eveyone should fisrt start off with is the Chrome colored flake in either the 0.015" or 0.008" size(depending on what you like) as you can lay down the flake and then use a transparent paint to achive the color you want, after that its all in what you want.
Oh and its Polyester flake that you want, not plastic or other types as with polyester you can mix it right into your epoxy or gelcoat if you fiberglass and not have a problem
