The 1/16 maple we sell comes from Canadian mills. The long grain material and 99 percent of the cross grain is all face stock material. No knots or blemishes. It is primo material for building decks.

Most veneer suppliers who sell to woodworkers usually have a great selection of fancy veneers but they are at premium prices, which is fine when you are looking for that nice piece of lacewood for a tabletop or bottom of a deck. Look out though if you want to buy maple for a deck as it is going to cost you a pretty penny.

I just did a search on Google and I found a price of $2.71 per square foot for 1/16" maple veneer from a reputable veneer supplier.
Here is the comparison. We sell seven 50" sheets for $21.42 That's 28 sq ft. of veneer. 76 cents per foot. Norah and I add a percentage to the veneer we sell in order to stay in business. The price we sell them for does not include the shipping of the material from the mill, handling or any of the packaging that is involved in getting it to you. We try to give you the best material possible at the lowest price without loosing money.

US and Canada have increased their postal rates over the past couple of years. Unfortunatly, when you ship anything the size of longboard veneer by mail you also have to pay an additional cost for the extra length. We sometimes use UPS on our larger orders, depending on which service gives us the best price.

We have tried to come up with alternate scenarios to get the price of shipping down. Things like drop shipping, where we send a large amount of stock to a central US depot and for a price they ship the materials out to our customers. The problem with this is it costs for their service, so by the time we pre-package, pay for shipping to the depot and pay for their service. It costs the same as what the original shipping price from Canada would have been.

I did mention once in a post, an option of putting together a large order and shipping it by freight to one person. Then distributing it from one location where if you were local you could pick it up but everyone is all over the country so its really not practical, but is a option that would save money.

No matter who you buy your material from make sure you calculate the shipping into the final amount. I suspect our price is going to be on the money once it is all said and done with.

A warning....There is a popular online veneer supplier who advertises he stocks skateboard veneer. I had a customer phone me saying he had bought some and it was full of holes, cracked and not suitable for building a deck.
