Default Entry Thread Vacuum Bag Theme Build-Off 2006

This is it people, the entry thread for the Vacuum Bag Build-Off 2006, so you have till the 10th of October to post up your entries, then the poll goes up for bestboard, and as per usual most votes win.

As a reminder these are the requirements for your entry

    1. Your board has to be made using the vacuum bagging style of boardbuilding, and built during the month of september.
    2. Materials - Post a picture of all the materials you used to make your board (ie. wood/veneers, your press, tools, and all the likes)
    3. Press - Post a picture of your board in your press.
    4. Removing - Post a picture of how your board looks after its been taken out of your press
    5. Finished - Display your final product in all its glory (paint/stain/grip you get the idea)

I also encourage you to post more pictures and mabey some info on how you made your boards (if you dont thats absolutely fine, as i realize that some people dont want to give away all their building secrets).

But remember this contest is a showcase to display a style of building, to show whats possible, and how easy it is, espically for those people who might want to have a go at it, as thats what these contests are for to have fun and prome boardbuilding and board innovation.

And i believe Ted over at Roarockit.com has offered up some prizes as follows, but defintely correct me if im wrong.
    1st 4 pack of veneer
    2nd 70" TAP Bag Kit
3rd Choice of one of their Roarockit hats

And Myself (Loki440) will be donating some might tasty Metalflake (color and size of your choice) to the top 3 places.

So have fun, and as always, im looking forward to seeing what all of you have cooked up

The only competition in life is yourself, but be warned it loves to throw challenges in your face, just to make it a fun experience..

Attaching them i suppose, because if your pics are too big, they won`t mess the FORUM size pg the page....In my opinion the best way is attaching them!!! GO FOR IT!

Allrighty then, here we go. This is a 48" x 9 1/4 Mahogany and Maple laminated board. I used three layers of 3/16 shop ply laminated with titebond III. I cut and bookmatched the veneer. The cool thing about cutting the flames, is that when you do it as a package (in this case the maple and mahogany flames) you end up with a positve and negative veneer. (two opposite boards). I pressed it over a particle board form, cut, shaped, and sanded the heck out of it. Finished with many coats of spar varnish (spray can type) then polished and waxed. For the non skid I used Behr non skid sprinkled into wet brown paint (for the woodcock) and clear Polyurethane for the rest. Hope you like it!

ok. here is my entry. this board was not ony the irst board ive built in about 3 years, but also my first time Vlam, as well as my first vac job.

the deck is maple and poplar, 11 1 inch strips. what is hard to see in the photo, is the EXTENSIVE hand shaping that went into this board. it has a good concave through the middle of the deck, which transitions to the planks ful 1/2 thickness at the tips. the base is also curved to match up with the top. this creates a very torsionally stiff board from your foot location outward, while still being very soft (both torsionally and longitudinally).it really allows you to steer each truck independently, and its something i would like to expirment with more and take to a much higher level. anyway, the board has 7 layers of unidirectional glass layed up on the base, in all sorts of orientations. the base is a soft fhabric, layed up over the glass. very similar to the old ride Kink snowboards, it isnt wetted through, so its still soft to the touch.

the board rides amazing, and the flex is very active and benifical. the only problem i have ra into so far, is that after maybe a month of riding, i have developed a crack in one of the laminates. it needs glass on the top, so so metime in the near future, i have to strip the top and reglass it. but other than that minor problem, shes been great.

    I second that kweszcion
The sage, Longboard Buddha once said, "A tree spends 100% of its lifetime in a static environment and only after its reincarnation as a deck is it allowed to move at fast speeds...
when allowed, the wood will give thankless service if
    allowed to flow."

How have you been riding that board for a month? All entries to this contest are to have been built during the official building period; the month of September. Did you build that in like one day?
