Nice board man...rough press with rough techniques equals a damm board...keep on
Do you think you could put on a press an 10mm thickness ply without gluying nothing and that it would keep the shape?
    Cheers
lol. the glue is what holds the shape.

    sikk deck mate!
im building my first press at the moment.. it will be similar to yours, how much does the angle you pointed out effect the deck?

o and can u buy ply wood straight or do you need to buy each seperate ply and glue em together?

I'm in the process of designing a sliding deck, and this press idea will definitely help me with building mine. Thanks, Brodie, you got me psyched now

Thanks for sharing this. A friend and I plan on building a press and a few boards for the first time, and I think this simple idea for a press sounds great. I'll be sure to get back at you about how this worked if we decide on using this idea.

THis would also work great without tile wdged nose and tail? Just to get some easy concave, right?

Brodie, I know it is not ideal, but I was wondering if you thought this type of press would work well with 1/4 inch Baltic Birch Ply? I can not locate any thinner Baltic Birch with 100 miles of me. I've spent 2 days and many phone calls trying. I haven't completely given up, but I can get 1/4 inch fairly easily. Thanks.

    He he. Well done!

I'll answer your question anyway..... This shape is very hard to achieve with 6mm ply (thats 1/4 inch to you damn yankees!) as it will not bend easy enough so the sharp bends achieved here (kick tails) will not happen.

the 4mm ply works great though! Good building.

How tight do you tighten the nuts? Is it a slow crossing process, tighten one from one side then the other as it gradually gets tighter or do you just scrunch it?

I just bosh em down. As long as they are all tight within about half an hour of the glue being spread you'll be fine.

Well, Brodie, thanks for the answer. I checked out your myspace page - awesome boards!!! Very nice paint jobs! Can I ak another question or two?

    1) Do you know what angle you made the nose and tail?

    2) How much less of an angle did the board actually flatten out to once released from the press?

    3) I know - I know - I said two, but.... How far apart are the two rails that gave you that awesome concave?

I'm a bigger guy (but not nearly as big as I used to be.) I am 6'1 and weigh 185 lbs. I wear a US size 11 shoe. I like wide decks. I am planning on building a 44 inch long version of your board. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Ha ha, yeah the myspaz is a bit out of date now but cheers for your nice comments.

    1) The angle is between 15 and 20 degrees. I just guessed it from a popsicle deck.

    2) With the 4mm ply , Titebond III and just under 48hours in the press there was no noticiable bend back at all.

    3) The rails are about 230mm (inside to inside) apart. The concave on my 1st pressing was to much, it made it hard and unconfortable to ride. I refined this by making the rails shorter in height.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask anymore q's that you need answering.

Thanks again, Brodie. I have everything ordered to build my press and the board/s. so I do have another question... how high are those side rails you now use? Thanks!

    David

also... do you do all the painting on your boards yourself? Again - very nice work!

    Hi,

I'm glad you like it, it was one of my favorite boards.......now some else is enjoying it

I have a new one on trade me, which is also a favorite, which im hoping will go to a good home.

Nice work on the press brodie! I have got some ply around, might have to give it a go. Your press makes it look sooo easy!! I love the graphics on some of those customs you do, nice work.

They are about 12 - 15mm high. That gives a deep, but not unconfortable concave that keeps me well locked into the deck when its sideways.

Yeah I do, I use acrylic paints and one-off stencils made from masking tape. It works a treat but takes a while.
