Default first stage of first build (cut)

I just obtained a piece of 3/4" baltic birch and cut it into this shape. today i mounted the trucks. the board is 5' long and 9" wide with around a 50" wheelbase. it flexs a lot, and I can bottom it out if I jump in the center. currently it has some randals and gumballs on it, but I think I am going to switch to either bears or paris... whichever rides higher.

Im also going to sand and paint and the like.

one question. is it silly to try to add concave to the deck by gluing 1" thick and 3/8" high strips down the sides of the top and then sanding them smooth where they meet the rest of the deck? i really don't have the means or the money to get clamps or access to a steamer and I would really like some concave. the plan would be to glue one 10" long strip then a 20" then another 10" all the way down the middle deck section with 2mm spaces in between to relieve the pressure from the flex on the added 'layer'

I dub it the Super Dervish.

Also, you can go to the local hardware store and buy some foam, carve it into the form of concave you would like, and apply griptape. I think it would be more cost efficient and easier to do. Good job on the build!

I undub it that, because thats a lame name, and redub it "say aahhhhh" because it looks like a tongue depressor.

Foam or 1/8 strips of wood would both work for concave.

And now that you have a proper dancer, i expect more stylish boardwalking videos!

You can't undub something that is already dubbed unless you're King Leonidas. You're just "Cranks".

Update: i just glued on the two wooden rails.

The rails made the board far more stiff. It bounces slightly, but not like it used to before the rails. Once I sand them down a bit I am hoping that some of the bounce will return. It rode extremely well, turning radius of about 12' and feathery smooth. I will post more updates as the slow process continues.

Just got done with the rough sanding (50 grit). I killed one belt sander and bought a new one today and went to town. I now have concave on the board. I will have to ride it about to see how I actually like it.

I also finally got the paint/design that I want mapped out in my head. I cannot wait for this sucker to be done. i think that I am going to put bear 10mm along with some 80 or 85mm hawgs on it; Sucker'll be a tank! Any suggestions for wheels other than some hawgs? I guess that flywheels are an option... I don't know yet still. I do know that I like my new concave.

I dub it the Loaded Dancer, looks just like the one from the picture that's going around.

Anywho cool board, I think it's one of the first I've see that has both wheel cutouts and a nose and tail. How do you plan on incorporating the graphic art.

I really thought that concave idea would look bad, but i'm really surprised on how it came out. Good Job!

Im thinking about possibly trying to sand the bottom rails to make the whole board the same width all the way across so that it would look more like real concave, but I can't decide if I want to put that time into it or if it would take away from a lot of the integrity.

I certainly got inspired by the loaded shape to make this, specially the dervish. I made my nose and tail 3" each, I don't know how big the dervish hang-overs are... but three inches is about as little as I would want on this battle axe.
