    Default first attempt

well here it is a first attempt at board building

now i did cheat a bit as the design i traced out from an existing sector 9 board that my girl rides - which is a 4 ply w/ fiberglass over the top about 32-33 inches long but way flexi. SO I decided to go to home depot and grab some 1/2 inch 7 ply birch - trace out the same sand it and mount up the trucks - relatively easy really i got 3 decks out of the 24x48 sheet of wood - here is the first deck, a bit crude but really more of a proto-type for what i am going to end up with - unfortunately after i gripped it it broke and im glad it broke the way it did so now i know what i need to do to the other 2 decks to make them more durable - im thinking fo glassing at least one of them and maybe adding an additional 1/8th inch sheet of another kind of wood on the other to see how that will work out as well - still retianing this shape - board was still flexi as a 7 ply

hardware used - Paris 150 trucks factory red bushings, Purple Skunk 62mm 78A wheels, Purple Skunk Bearings - get feel for the lil i did get to try it out in front of my condo

Big thanks to Scott over at Muir Surf and Skate for the Paris trucks - these things are just sweet - and thanks to Purple Skunk for the wheels and bearings set up - wheels and bearings for 35 bucks - got to visit the shop a while back when I went up to Frisco for a weekend

it probably broke because you used the wrong type of birch plywood. the kind you get from home depot has filler in the middle plys which make it much weaker.

to get the right type of baltic birch search for baltic birch at local lumber dealers

but otherwise it looks really fun to ride

Yea, I would to get wood from a lumber yard, You'll pay a little more but it's worth it, They have more to choose from, and maybe try 9 ply. I remember building my own boards, and 9 ply seemed to work out pretty well.

it was a fun ride for the short time i got to play with it - im going to get some better lumber this weekend i found a place locally that does stock baltic birch ply 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch - i might just go with the 3/4 inch and see how that works out - might build a board stand/display with the other 2 decks i cut out with the home depot wood
