lets review (fabric/epxy/finish)
Alright guys heres the deal. i have a KS scimitar that was ordered naked (unfinished). im doing a LBL-esque design to it using hawaiian print fabric with stripes stained onto the board.
my questions come after pressing the search button too many times.
1. after im done staining, what brand and type of varnish/clear coat should i use to ensure that the finish will flex without a problem?
2. i understand that you lay down the epoxy, place the fabric on the board, and wet out the fabric with another layer but should i first varnish the board entirely before usig the epoxy or is varnish the last step in the process?
3. how many layers or varnish should i use and at which point would i apply silica?
sorry if this is beating a dead horse for the majority of you guys but i appreciate any help i can get.

Umm stain will not leave lines
it just bleeds into the wood,
Unless I have some crap stain, I tried it once
didn't look real pretty
I dunno try it out
tape a piece of scrap and throw some finish over to see if it leaves good lines

Re: lets review (fabric/epxy/finish)
If I understand correctly you are trying to create a board with a fabric print and then some sort of lines/stripes painted over the fabric print.
If this is the case, the way I would achieve this is by laminating the fabric as you had specified; lay up the fabric, wet it out with epoxy resin, do not use any finishing materials (vanish) on the board before lamination. After the epoxy has cured, sand and paint your striping. Then to finish it all off put on another layer of epoxy, some call this step a hot coat (their is a brief tutorial on this @ Satanic Yoga ), this layer can be sanded smooth to achieve a hard, smooth, lustrous finish, or in your case have silica sand mixed in to add grip..
Edit: If you are attempting to stain stripping in a separate location from the fabric, you will obviously have to do your staining before the first layer of epoxy.

Do i Humu? yes I Do!! x3!
im just uneasy about the epoxy portion since i have never used epoxy in my life....
