need help trimming splintered carbon fibre/fibreglass lam deck
Smashed up the nose of my S9 Carbontrylam on a curb the other day. It's splintered about 1cm - 1.5cm down the nose and taken a small chunk of wood out (photos aren't the clearest because I only had my camera phone).
Is there a particular way I should trim it seeing as how it has the fibreglass/carbon fibre lams or can i just use a jigsaw or a hacksaw or something?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, its just that the laminates seem a little splintery and I dont want to risk any more splitting...

Maybe a better way to put it is, what is the best tool to reshape the nose that wont cause the carbon fibre to splinter?

A random orbit sander will do the trick. Just start with 80, and work your way up to 220, then clearcoat it with some krylon crystal clear to seal it back up.

Considering the boards you make I'm more than happy to go with your recommendations! Thanks man!

maybe you want to fill the crack first and try to lam together as much of what is left of the nose.
get 2 component fast curing epoxy glue.
mix and apply generously.
heat with blowdryer to reduce viscosity.
use plasic foil / cling film as antiadhesive barrier.
clamp between 2 smooth but hard wood blocks or similar.
press over night.
then sand and reshape.

I guess you can't really tell from the bad quality pics but the chunk in the nose has actually taken out 4 of the 5 maple plys. Its a pretty solid gap with really just the carbonfibre/fibreglass lams left.
Should I still try and fill it?

just put a bandaid on it and keep riding!

Yeah, I wish. I think if she takes another hit it'll split back to the first set of truck holes...

Hey, thanks for the advice. I went and bought a cheap random orbital and it worked awesome. Sanded it back about an inch so now its got a big old blunt nose (which I actually dont mind). There is still a little bit of debonding between the bottom maple plys but I didn't want to sand to far back towards the truck holes (i'm hoping it just stays as is). Thanks again!
