Do you mean normal birch plywood?

If so, most of the birch plywood you will find is Chinese made plywood with a lower grade wood used for the middle plies, and only a thin veneer of birch on the faces. I'm sure some people might want to chime in here, and tell you that they have built a board out of it, and it worked. I always say, that if you're going to do it, do it right, so definitely use baltic birch plywood.

Listen to the voice of experience. He's built his share of boards. There has been a ton of people that have made boards out of all kinds of different types of wood, but if you plan on putting any serious time or effort into it, do yourself a favor and do it right. You will probably thank yourself later.

baltic and/or scandinavian birch grow in a climate with mild summers and cold winters, resulting in slower growth, resulting in stronger, denser wood with a more regular grain. (compared to birch from warmer climates)
the same is true for maple.

I built my first board out of 3 ply chinese birch that I had around my house and it did not work so well. It was a 40 in pintail, and there were many problems. The camber i had put in it (2 cm) using the toothless method, had all but dissapeared, and no matter how short I made the wheel base it would still bend down at least 4 in. when I stood on it. I seriously suggest finding some baltic birch if you want a quality board.
