Massive Press

Hello i'm new to longboards making, i have read mostly all post from the last 10 pages and willing to start the longboard making, Today after a bit more than 1 hour of work i almost funished my 1st press and tomorrow im gonna go buy my wood and finish the press up to get my longboard in a couple of days ready to ride

heres the pic of the press almost finished the longboard on it is a 43'' motion bigfish pintail, the press is 5'x1' and the bars used to tighten the board are 2''x4'' and 1,6' long



Please let any comment i could have to improve this press or errors i have done so i wont scrap all my time and the wood ill buy tomorrow
BTW both the wood sides for the concave will be 1/2'' or 3/4'' thick i dont know yet what should i use ?

Tomorow will come more pics of the wood in the press and 1 day after the board clean out

here is an image i made for a different thread



basically, your press should give you a flat area of around 2.5" in the middle, so the concave will start from there. that leaves 9.5" with concave, just like the picture. So how much concave do you want? for reference, 10 mm ≈ 3/8", 15mm ≈ 19/32" (like anyone can actually get that precise...) that leaves 1/2" somewhere in between the two.

oh, and I might add a few more clamps just to spread out the pressure.

Thanks for the tips man i followed ems a bit but theres some i should have linstened more the board is now in the press tomorrow ill post more pics of me tighthening the press and the board fresh out, For now its in my basement
i should have put more clamps on it as you said because now i think there will be some uneven concave but still gonna be a insane ride with his 0,5 inch concave
The design for the board gonna be my avatar but without white. All the white parts gonna be wood. I will shape this board in pintail with a blunt nose. so thats it for tonight

There we are the board has been took out of the press and cut to this shape, there still need 2 layers of varnish and theres some errors that cannot be seen on the following picture but still its my first board !!! more boards to come :

This week-end i will complete this board with some kruxx one flashback 70s redz bearings and ill do a custom sick griptape job ! btw if you guys have any nice idea on a griptape job say it ! i wanna be inspired

Great job, And the press looks pretty damn pro.

That's impressive. That puts my first board to shame. The grip job get some clear tape and do something underneath or just go with argyle design.
