Re: 4mm Drop Through Possible.....? W/ Triax Fiberglass
are you planning on putting concave or camber in it? if so, it might be a better idea, and easier to do 4mm of bamboo+ 2 (1/16") plies of maple or 4mm babmboo+ 3mil baltic birch, or 3mm bamboo+ 3mm bamboo, that way you can laminate it to get a good snappy camber and concave.
otherwise...
what weight is your glass? for 6-8 oz. glass i would say you're going to need 3 layers at least to get the flex and return you want.
Re: 4mm Drop Through Possible.....? W/ Triax Fiberglass
NO CONCAVE.
camber.... i will press the board with the glass on it and heat cure the epoxy by pressing it in a board kiln, this will allow the glass to hold the camber.
i will be using 19oz triax.
so i was thinking two layers of that and one layer of 3.7 oz s-glass
Re: 4mm Drop Through Possible.....? W/ Triax Fiberglass
why are you stuck on triax or uni? regular 90* weave is just fine, throw in a couple layers at 45* for torsional stiffness.
The concave and where it is and isn't will have the biggest effect on the flex. Make it even and don't have any narrow spots with no concave unless you want it to flex and be weak all at one spot.
My advice would be to lay up the wood with 3 layers of glass on each side, and then see how flexy it is, adding more layers until you get the desired flex. Keep in mind it will "break in"and get a bit more flexy than how it is right out of the press.
