Re: First Board COMPLETE...
Thats really nice right there.
And if you like the ride with those risers, keep them on. Me personally, I would go with some a bit smaller because I dislike having to bend down alot to push(Im not to tall).

Re: First Board COMPLETE...
looks like a fishing lure lol, good first board, the symmetry and straightness (well curveyness) of the edges needs to be worked on, but that will come with more time/boards

I think you did a great job for a first board. Practice makes perfect; you're getting there.

Nice build. As mentioned before it gets easier as funner as you progress. I still have an uneasy feeling when I see my first build. My son keeps it in his room for some reason. Here it is 60" long x 10" wide x 3/4" thick

38" "Fish"tail - Baltic Birch Ply, Randal 150's, Gumballs
She rides like a dream, flexes to flat when I stand on it and FLY's. This is my first time to ride a longboard so I dont really have anything to compare it to, but from what I feel it is good.
One question, I have 5/16" risers on right now, but I am thinking 1/4" or less may be better, does it look a little high right now?
Thanks to all.
I would take out the risers completely, or add some thin 1/4-inch ones instead of the tall ones... Or you could try modifying the deck and make it drop-through and that would be really sweet... Low boards Kick-A$S!!! Congrats definately.

Re: First Board COMPLETE...
Thanks for all the compliments! Yeah the symmetry/curyness needs some work but hopefully I can get better at that as a continue to make boards.
Is it a problem to run no riser, or does some sort of pad need to run between the board and trucks?

nope dont need to run a riser if you dont want, ideally i run at least an 1/8" softriser just to kill vibrations

I have a quick newbie question, I have a couple of nice little hills (slopes) around me that I have been practicing on but I cant s-carve very tight and when I get going a little faster I cant turn anymore and dont no how to stop so I just have to do the bail run move. Any thoughts on how to stop/slow down so I dont have to do the jump and run move?? Maybe I just need to practice S-turns more before I get up to speed, but the damn board is so fast I can help it! Thoughts?
footbraking, and sliding, just practice at it, as im comfortable footbraking from 50-60kmh, any faster i usually just airbrake, or just bomb it, but if i NEED to brake and in a hurry then i slide, but honestly i haven't had to yet, plus i usually do go above 50kmh that often.
Oh and wear your pads and helmet, and do yourself a favor and make or buy a set of slide gloves

Thanks for the tips. I have been a little premature in the riding and don't have any pads or helmet yet but after tonight (I ate #### into a lawn) I am not riding again till I get some pads and helmet. Is sliding possible with 78A hardness wheels?? Thanks again.

Yea, I thought 180's would be good but the shop I was at suggested the 150's and since I am new to longboarding didn't question the call. Anyway, I think I may drop down to a smaller riser pad and see how that is before I invest in a pair of 180's. Thanks for the response.

if you mounted it wrong you would of immediately knew as soon as you stepped on the board and tried to turn.
as yes its possible to slide 78a, just gonna take abit, its best to try sliding on a harder set of wheel till you get the hang of it, if possible anyways

Since I havent riden a longboard before I'm not sure I would know, is there a standard way of mounting?

Try putting them on the other way and you will see what he means right away. Pivot cup to the outside is the right way.
Doesn't matter if you have never ridden a longboard it is nearly impossible to use a board with backward trucks, because when you lean right the board turns left and falls out from under you.
