Please accept our apologies for changing the schedule on that one. The board is amazing. If you'll give me a write up, describing the motivation and idea behind it, how you did those contours, why you did those contours and adding a shot or two of the deck in use, we'd love to run that as a story for skaters to read on our front page. Email me at "ebasil@silverfishlongboarding.com".
It breaks my heart, but it's right and fair: DQ accepted.

can i just say that i want to enter and have a funky to enter but would rather NOT have the spear out of the comp.... this is about building boards and being challanged... that an i was confused when we were building and missed the start date and have not even started to shape my balsa core....
How about a poll with all the people who enter?
Just my two cents...

Balsa core...nice....Ive used combos of Balsa and Baltic Birch for two minis...and the boards are soooo lightweight and stiff with no cracking sounds.......i guess i shouldnt ask any secrets yet..dang

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
Mine is coming out of the press today, but with my work schedule I may not finish. I might rather wait and have it look good than hurry it up and mess stuff up.
I would vote for making exceptions to the time line rule for this contest since some people didn't understand.

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
Well after a good few hours on the phone trying to find out where my order of carbon, kevlar and a few other parts was I gave up...
I just got a reply... the order has been held up dew to a processing error and will not be shipped untill the 12 so i might get it on the 13th but i think more likely to be around the 14th....
sucks to be me....
best of luck to all the builders who didn't leave it till last second!

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
man, well done, seriously that's a nice deck. any concave in the tail? pretty stiff?
-
Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
thanks,
yes the tail has concave and the deck has a little tiny dead flex left (in the middle)
no torsion.
-
Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
very nice, did you build your mold out of MDF?

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
I wish i had seen this sooner,
have been on and off of here, but building for about 4 years, solids, plys and presses, but thought as i'm now sort of involved in the Gecko carbon/foam decks, i'd share this simple slalom deck solution, which did me proud the last 9 months.
I was not having any luck with my mould foam and kept ending up with 'rocker' not kick tails, so in a stroke of genius i came up with this.
All i wanted to acheve was an entry level slalom kicktail deck for TS.
Start with a blank 80's style pool deck,

Reshape with narroer waist, tail and my own classic nose shape and redrill,

Burn or spray my logo,

Grip job,

Set up and ride,

Has to be the most cost effective and functional deck i've ever made and i ended up selling more of them then any i've done.
Its good to share.
Pete, that foam core rocks dude.

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
well here is my entry.
i'll get more detailed build photos up tonight, cuz the flash drive i took to work decided to go all wonky, and only a few pics were uncorrupted.
so here's the board. 35" x 10". flat in the middle, edges shoot up very sharply, it's perfect width and concave for my feet, i looove it. The board is made for aggressive "urban slalom" involving quick carving (have crails with a clear rad/blue khiro front and blue khiros back, i weigh 180), quick bursts of pumping, and standup sliding, i'd imagine with this truck setup/concave/length it would be a great mini-dh-er and garage ripper, but i havent tried it out yet. Wheels for the moment verrry old and worn 77a zigs that slide like butter, at some point i'll get orange hawgs. the shape is inspired from the timeline, but similarities end there. I just don't like worrying about wheelbite
board is 7 plies maple pressed in a roarockit press. i added a layer of veneer on the bottom that you can't see and i'll post up later.
this was my first build, and i feel the need to be honest, this board will probably break very soon. The bends i tried to press were just too extreme and i've have delam problems since day 1. but it was a very good learning experience, and fostered my hatred for cross plies. So this weekend i'm going to go pick up some fiberglass and some epoxy, and with the same mold remake this board! and hopefully it'll stay in 1 piece. But for now, here's my entry:

edit: here's pics of the build

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
Foil Shaper formally submits "The Stingray", a super giant hybrid tight anti slalom special!
Dimensions: L-31.25" x W-9.75", Inner Bolts: 18" ---> 21.75", Concave Depth 0.75"
Fitted with Radikals and Seismic speed vents 85mm, whites and reds, builtin 7's.
Wood construction: vertical laminate, birdseye maple stringers, cypress and douglas fir. Fiberglassed to accommodate over 225 lbs. High gloss acrylic clear coat and custom secret grip job.
This board was inspired by 2 riders that had the craziest styles I have ever seen, Claude Regnier and Clifton Jennings. A totally unique stance in which the contours and concaves are designed around.
Former Workshop - gave it all away!

Got to kep your kitchen neat and tidy!

3 quarter inch carved concave

Soft Wheels, even on the roughest surface!

Stingray, out of water ...

Comfortable foot cups,

Respect my 'authori-tie'

That's it, gone surfing, Goad - Thanks for the trucks and my new hair cut!

This was the last of the Katrina Boards, from the immortal words of the greatest daredevil Evil Kinevil, This will be my last competition, I am retiring.

Re: '08 Board Build Off, Round One: ENTRY THREAD
Okay, not sure if I'm too late, or if I started too early. I started making this board 27th. december, and just finished today(not much sparetime with studies and all, so hope its OK that I pressed it during my holiday with appropriate tools++ and did the rest at my Uni. But if I'm too late, feel free to disqualify me. After seeing the other boards here I don't think I'll have any chance of winning anyways
It's NOT a traditional slalom board, but it's a pedestrian slalom board
The Random:
Construction:
Thickness: 3x3mm sheets of birch plywood
Lenght: 75cm(29,5")
Width: 24cm(9,5")
Dropthrough
Open nose/tail
wheelwells similar to those found on the Rayne Hellcat
Setup:
Kahalani's with white and blue khiro's
Fishballs
Biltin's
The board was made totally random(therefore the name ). I had an idea of a short slalom dropthrough that would be perfect for sidewalk pedestrian-slalom and all-round city riding and thats all the planning that went into the board.
The rest I just came up with during the building process. I used the same press that I used on my first board wich gives the board an awesome concave(so I'm not gonna slip off during crowded slalom runs through town). Since Halden(where I live at the moment) is so flat I decided to make an open nose/tail design so I could use my Kahalani precision trucks more than only on my raceboard(wich get close to 0 use here). The open nose/tail makes it lightning fast to change trucks between the two boards compared to other drop-throughs.
I've been saving the wheels for a special board, and I think this is the perfect board for them. Grippy, but yet easy to slide when pushed hard, to show off after slaloming my way through a bunch of people(Silverfish Fishballs)
The bottom design is a story by itself.
I went the cheap way and bought my paint and masking tape at a very cheap store(Europris) wich resulted in the paint not sticking at all and when I took off the masking tape to reveal my killer design I pulled off most of the paint. With the short time left I just painted the whole board white, found a waterproof felt-marker and just made a crazy random design. In the end I think it turned out pretty cool.
After a small testrun I have to say that the board feels like a winner. Turns on a dime and seems pretty stable, and best of all it's crazy how easy it is to pump this setup!
Enough talk.. PICTURETIME!!

Pressed the board this christmas(check out the christmas tree in the background!)
