Re: Graphics Contest Entry Thread
Wow! We have some really sweet looking rides in this little compitition. It feels good to create, right?
MO, I didn't notice the beautiful stain fade the first time I saw your board, but it really does add a lot.
Jcup, Funny. I just received a Wacom Bamboo as a gift because I was enjoying art so much again. Those Wacom pens are really incredible. I am especially enjoying the Oil Painting features.
Rodgon, Are you still waiting for the board to arrive or the art to be finished? I'd be freaking out if the board wasn't in front of me 2-3 weeks ago!
Destroyer of Poetry, Cool as Sh#@ board! Did you play with the colors a little on the picture to get the image to pop out? I ask because I can't tell what color sheet is behind the board.

The artwork has been done and is being translated on to the board and being finished up as we i type this. it should be done well before the deadline. Just keep an eye out for it. its an awesome mini!

There were two deadlines for this contest explained in the rules. The board had to be completed by the end of Feb and you had a week to decide when to post your entry. Am I missing something? Because I failed in completeing my entry by the deadline stated in the rules and it will not be entered.

Thanks man! And, yeah, it does feel good to create and see others awesome creativity!
The pics of mine have a bit of redish in the background (it's a white sheet) because it was quite difficult to photograph (because the paint has a sheen to it.) It was a challenge to get a clean pic of the whole thing that didn't have a big glare. That, and the nose and tail are quite dark, but still have detail, so needed a fair amount of light to show that. My boyfirend was in charge of taking the pics, and did a great job Pics were tweaked just a bit to correct the color, and it acctually looks a lot like it does in real life. It looks sweet in person, (a teensy bit greener too), but I'm sure all these boards look more awesome in person than in pics! Sweet entries!

Re: Graphics Contest Entry Thread
I know what you are saying. I litterally took hundreds of photos trying showcase the art without getting shine. The reflection would cover so much of the board that it would obscure the artwork. Your boyfriend did a great job, and that scene is just amazing.

Heavenly- good to see you posted, I like the honeycomb I think a random coloring of the individual "combs" connected together would look great. I dig the hypno-seuss must speak in iambic pentameter.

The board just has to be completed by the deadline, and submitted by the deadline. there wasnt anything that said that there was a time for building... you trying to get me disqualified? hahahaha
or am i mistaken?

I scanned the sketch into photoshop and start painting over it using my Wacom tablet and pen. Once the design was desirable I held the prints over my hot stove to age the paper and mute the colors to match the rough stain. Then I cut out all the pieces carefully with a small blade and mounted them on the deck. Finally the clear coat...enjoy!
The tag in the cloud says Abstract Grey (my graphic design title for the longboard scene) and the logo is on the bottom of his foot.

Re: Graphics Contest Entry Thread
The entry week has always been a grey area. Perferably all contestants should have their work finished by the end of the designated build month (febuary). That being said, (and I just covered this in another thread) anyone could still be working on their art all the way up until the end and no one would be the wiser. So why not just say it's okay? It usually gets a few more entrants in and keeps things running smooth. I let things run a little loose with these contests. If you start coming down hard on everyone and they tend to be less fun. These contests are just about having fun.

Re: Graphics Contest Entry Thread
Well, I guess i should have just skipped the rules and kept on chuggin' along. Too bad as I can't complete it now. Oh well. That being clarified , I was not missing anything. The rules just called an audible in mid contest. It is correct that some could lie about not being done in time , but some already have outed themselves.
Just think it is one thing to go into a contest as a pro amoungst hobbiests and another to go in as a pro and not make a deadline.
Later.

Re: Graphics Contest Entry Thread
5. All entries must be made during the official build period specified. This means it has to be new work. Not something you did last year or whenever.
Timeline:
Febuary is the official "Build Period." All entries must be made during Febuary. I will post the "It's Go Time" thread to kick it off.
You have until the end of Febuary to finish your art.
Cut and pasted from Sniffless Rules.
I can see this from both sides, though.

Problem being, how can it be enforced?
It really can't, until the thread is locked...
but, whats the point of locking a thread if there is no vote option.
I love the way Sniffy runs these. The gray areas of the rulings always tend to clear themselves up.

Re: Graphics Contest Entry Thread
Can I suggest that from now on any contests with posted rules stick to the posted rules. I can read the very un-grey rules and Feb is Feb, this is March. No Grey involved. Simple comprehension of simple rules needed only. Others had posted concerns about not completing in the time allotted (sylviajane) on the 20th and was told that she had a week or more left to complete. NOT 18 days which brings her to the 7th. So that makes my entry and concerns not singular.
Would have thought a pro would have made the deadline and would not badger the point but for his cocky attitude and lack of respect for structured rules.
There is an expensive board I am no longer in the running for and that makes this very un-fun for me.

Enforcement is easy . Those that postred they were not done, here, today, are in-fact done with the contest. They did not make the deadline. This is for a boad worth major $$. Has some balls and withdraw. Simple.
