The March Superior Graphics Craftsman Voting Thread

As part of an effort to improve the contest voting methodology, we're trying a little experiment.

Popular voting determined the top five finishers in the Graphics Contest.

Doc Frye, Carver, liljimmisticles, mc99david, and arcaneboarder will now decide who they think the top three finishers should be from all of the Graphics Contest entries - not just those chosen by the 'Feesh Gallery.

They will each post their top three picks and the results will be figured up.

In the event their totals work to some form of tie, the contest host will throw down the tie breaking vote.

Once the dust settles, the top three finishers will be announced.

The winner will be named April's 'Feesh Superior Build Contest Host.

Have at it and let's see who the craftsmen think put forward the best effort.

hey all, i just spent about 45 minutes on the entry thread rechecking all the entries and, man there is some good work in that thread, these are my favorites.

ok here is what i think that top 3 and an honorable mention boards are in my own opinion:

1- Doc Frye : Your illustration skills are very good and it shows on the board, your composition is also excellent and right off the bat i knew it was going to be hard to beat. Mayor kudos on the clean and simple linework and the crosshatching was just what put this board over the top in my professional opinion.

2- 96789 Carver: i was amazed at how much detail you added with wood burning, im sure you spent hours on it and it shows. the only reason that i chose Doc fryes design over yours was simply due to the cleanliness of the illustration. The linework with woodburning is naturally going to be a little bit grainy and it does add some appeal to it in by itself but you cant beat the amazingly clean linework that doc frye did on his illustration. Different approaches give very different results, but in my opinion that gave doc frye the edge over your board.

3- Arcane/Rodgon: not to toot my own horn or anything, but that was not just a sticker that went on that board fellas. The process taken to go from an image and making the design exactly for that shape of a board and having this been a collaboration job between two fellow fishes makes me choose this over the rest. The graphic is cool and even though its not a board contest the deck itself is killer. double sided graphics and the possiblity of being able to duplicate it with custom colors if you wanted also puts this little board at least in third place.

I would also like to say that all the boards submitted were amazing and those riders should be incredibly happy that they have that candy under their feet. No one can take away the fact that you made some amazing work and im sure alot of people here are quite envious of your work.

last but not least id like to make an honorable mention or 4th place mention to another deck that made me want one right away!

honorable mention: HARO.
even though more of a design than a graphic i loved this guys boards ever since i saw those pictures, they are nice, clean and amazing! the detail and the different woods put through his process just makes the boards look great and if he ever decides to make them in production ill be the first one in line to buy one.

thats it for my professional opinion on the top 3. hope it helps clarify a little of how i think and a little insight of whwy i chose who i chose. thanks!

So the Craftsman picks shake out like this:

96789carver received 5 top finishes

Doc Frye received 2 top finishes

arcane/rodgon received 2 top finishes

foil shaper, liljimmisticles, Destroyerofpottery, Captain Matt, cluport and molongoarder each made it in with 1 pick.

Each top finish has been assigned a value of 1 - plenty of subjectivity in the rating without throwing a progressive schema on top of everything else.

96789carver is the runaway 1st place finisher but we're presented with a tie for 2nd and 3rd place and so the judges - me, myself and Irene - step in to throw a vote to arcane/rodgon for second which I believe puts the top three finishers in this order

1st - 96789carver



2nd - arcane/rodgon



3rd - Doc Frye



No real dramatic changes in terms of who should be in the top 3 but it certainly changed the placement as rated by the popular vote.

Meester carver, Congrats! You will be the contest host for the March - not April - 'Feesh Superior Build Contest. As you can see, the job can make or break someone so if you have a problem and need to designate your judge slot, please let me know and I'll work with you on getting that done.

YEAH the final voting is how it should have looked in my opinion, good job working through the Bugs guys, your boards all had good qualities about them, however I think that Arcane, Rodgon has the most saleable item, meaning mass production, Wood burning looks awesome but Takes alot of time, and the rest well not my style but still Good Job
