You can hang a poster on your wall with a railroad spike too but it doesn't mean you should.

Titebond is just a better glue.

Titebond III to be exact. how the hell does elmer's glue even hold up? I'm surprised to hear that.

titebond III offers type 1 water resistancy once dry, and is a really good wood glue

I'm actually really surprised that people build boards with titebond, or any kind of wood glue really. I thought it required something like fibreglass resin or epoxy or something a bit more 'advanced' if you know what I mean.

yep on my first homemade I used elmers. It lasted like 2 months before the plys started breaking apart. But it would still ride.

When I talked with Franklin (the company that produces Tightbond III) when we were looking around for glues, they said it was derived from a glue called SK8 but re-formulated to more suit the woodworking market, SK8 is a glue for small production deck manufacturers and works really well for this application.

We have used Titebond III for all of our classes over the last 7 years of teaching deckbuilding. We also include it in all of our deck kits. I think it is the best glue out there.
It's water resistant and has a working (wet) time of almost 9 minutes. (big deal when laying up a bunch of layers) Other white glues start to kick in 4 or less minutes.

    So why not buy SK8?
Hard to get in small quantities.
Has a shelf life of only 3 months, I've seen 5 gallon pails kick off in less time than this.
Expensive to ship as it is heavy.

I am not an expert with epoxies but I do know some of them when dry produce a very ridged glue line. Titebond III produces a more flexible glue line. I think this works better for making laminated decks that have to flex a lot.

Titebond is good stuff. Titebond III is great. It allows for a quick (not paniced) assembly time, it cures to a flexible bond, and somehow has the lowest toxicity of the Titebond line. I believe epoxy is stronger, but until I see problems with T-III, I'll keep using it for wood lam's.

When I called the guy at Titebond, I asked if they had a product that would be suitable for "a flexible lamination application". I had already been experimenting with T-III but thought I should seek out something more "professional". He said, "we have Titebond III which we formulated for archery bows and SKATEBOARDS which should work fine for whatever you're doing." Cool, huh?

Oh, and the bonus is it's fun to peel off your fingers later, like Elmer's.

and when you spill titebond III on your old ass hardwood floors, it cleans up real easy.
You can't hang a man, for killing a woman, who was trying to steal his board.

The only difference between multibond SK8 & titebond III is the preservatives that are included in the titebond.
