Using Multiplex?
The only available baltic birch I can find here is multiplex ( a layer of 3 thin plies glued together). Note that this wood is already glued to be flat. The smallest width I could find was
3mm. I was thinking of a board with a slight camber... It seems to me that on a local forum, eveyone uses pre-glued multiplex and still manages to press them in "standard" angles.
Do you think this would be ok?
Thanks!

Re: Using Multiplex?
yes, it will. For more complex curves you will need to use individual veneers, and with multiplex you may encounter a bit of spring back, in that the concave you end up with will be less than what you pressed into it. so err on the side of too much curve.

Re: Using Multiplex?
ok, sounds good. Fortunately, I located a veneer seller around 5 mins away from my house, and he sells canadian maple and baltic birch. It's almost impossible to get canadian maple in this entire country, and now only 5 mins away from my place...wow.
anyways I'll be starting simple board designs with multiplex.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Using Multiplex?
don't forget to take it into account when counting plies... an evo is 11 ply, but as you can imagine, 11 plies of multi is going to be 33 plies of wood....

Re: Using Multiplex?
Sounds to me that you're talking about the exact same 1/8'' thick BB that practically everyone on here uses.
Should be good to go.
the middle ply is cross grain, right?

I thought everyone used separate plies, which I thought I couldn't use cause there was no supply of it here. However I found a supplier of seperate plies.
It'll be some time untill I start making the boards. I've got a lack of time at the moment, but this weekend I'll see how much space there is, were I'll work, etc. We're also going to check the distributor to see what they have and the quality of it. I don't expect making a board anytime soon, but it's coming alright =).

Re: Using Multiplex?
Seperate plies are $$ to get, usually.
Also, they're not needed unless you want some heavy bends.
