Sugar Boards-yeah!!
Hey guys and girls,
I haven't posted much lately, thought it was about time. Here is some of the stuff Ive been up to. Cant remember if I posted the new Sugar Boards model or not.
But here it is anyway:
Big Boys Cruiser:
34 1/2" x 8"
Designed for flat land and gentle slopes. Larger nose and tail, for manuals, shortening the wheel base making for a snappier and more responsive ride. Ive been setting up with either Randal 180mm or the Carver C2 Performance trucks and Lime Retros 70mm. Goes great!
Anyway enough jibajaba heres the pictures:

Here is a custom I made. It is 46" x 9 1/2" pintail, Paua inlay. This was designed for a rather sizey fellow and to combine with his electric set-up. Biggggg wheels (100mm)and a battery thing with a spinny motor thingy. Don't have any pictures of it set-up as I'm waiting to here back from him.
Constructed from Rimu and some South American hardwood, cant remember the name... But looks awesome in the light.
Pictures:

Heres another custom for a mate. 41 1/2" x 9" standard model pintail, Paua inlay, with teak and mahogany tail block mortise and tenon join(not sure on the spelling). Constructed from Rimu, Ash and some mahogany rails.
Pictures as followed:

Also I have just finished my "performance model" which is stronger lighter and with some sweet, sweet rocker!
But you'll have to be patient for the pictures....
Just been planning down some wood for my entry into this coming v-lam competition. Its got me all amped up!
Enjoy,
Would appreciate any constructive opinions,
Will

There we go, pictures are fixed and now at a reasonable size, though they aren't as crisp now I have resized them.
What do you think?

Re: Sugar Boards-yeah!!
Woah, those look really nice. How is the flex on those babies?
-
Re: Sugar Boards-yeah!!
The 41" pintail has a real nice flex and same for the 34 inch , not too much not to little. But the big 46" pintail, was designed for a 120kg man. So when a 65kg person like my self jumps on it nothing happened, haha.
Sometimes v-lams can be somewhat limiting when it comes to flex, but still will have a bit. But stay tuned, I may have designed a easy way, to make a v-lam stronger, lighter, and flexier.

What's wrong with flat? I remember when all we had was flat, and we walked a mile in the snow to school, and we watched black & white tvs( with 3 channels) when we weren't listening to AM radio. JK. Those are well crafted and beautiful! Question: How did you get the top grip texture? I'm guessing turbinado sugar washed off the 'poly right?

Re: Sugar Boards-yeah!!
You need to open up a website and start selling them... Really those boards are the secks... Is that silica sand grip? I'm really considering buying some stuff and start making v-lams

Re: Sugar Boards-yeah!!
Hey all,
Thanks for all the comments.
Yes I am 15, The grip is glass grip (recycled), then just used as if it were silica sand.
The inlay is paua shell. New Zealand deep sea shell fish.
As for the woods I use, All is recycled Native and exotic hardwoods. Such as Rimu, Ash, Mahogany, Teak, oak..... These are planned and cut into various sizes then vertically laminated to form a Sugar Board!
As for the website, I have been thinking about it for some time. I found a program that I thought might be appropriate to use, but after making the website, found that they would I could only publish it on their hosting plans.
If anyone had suggestions for a free easy to use program that would be much appreciated.
I am trying to get a 'coming soon....." page put on the web just with my contact details but well see.
Cheers,
William

Dreamweaver is a relatively simple to use WYSIWYG html editor, or Mozilla Composer is free. But the downside of using something like this is the resulting code can be ugly if you want to edit it by hand later. I would recomment learning html, it is pretty easy to put together a simple web page. If you want something more than a static page you probably won't be able to rely on things like dreamweaver to do it for you unless you understand the underlying mechanics so you might as well start learning.

Hey,
Thanks I give both programs a go and see what happends.
Id like to learn the html business, but to start with Id like to just get a website on. I'm looking at a few pages, home, boards, about, contact. In the boards section I will have a preview picture of each model that you can click on to get a full description and bigger pictures and a customs page with info on getting a custom order. So about ten pages all up. Nothing too flash just some good, clean pictures and a little description on each board.
Just got a new camera too, takes awesome pictures!!
Oh and 'mcgoon' yes these boards are flat. Bit trickier to get concave into a v-lam. In saying that, I like 'em flat, epically when board walking and whatnot, and for carving the glass grip provides plenty of grip. I also leave the top rail edge rather 'sharp', which also gives plenty of rail control.
Cheers
Will
