how did you shape the foam piece? by hand (and very carefully?) or cnc?

and how many sheets of glass (and what type...im guessing there's no cf there, but i could be wrong) did you use?

sorry for all the questions, ive just started messign around with this type of junk, and tryin to get a better feel for it

    sweet build tho!

Can you list the materials used from top to bottom? and what kind of epoxy did you use?

cheers mate, yeah i shaped the core by hand (the foam is harder than you think to shape), but on the next model, i will be using templates to shape it, which should reduce the working time alot.
Yea, there is no cf there, i had heaps of fg so i used it. theres one layer of uni glass and one layer of tri glass over the core, with one layer of uni glass on the deck, wouldnt have a clue on the weights though.

As for the type of resin, its a 521 series resin (if that means anything to you) apprently its equivalent to west system, or better.

thanks for all the positive feedback, the next model will be full carbon with a kicktail.

Love your board. I like the way it isnt CF has a more unusual look to it.

I'd like to know how you pressed it, i want to use a roarockit to press fibreglass, but im not sure if it would be up to the job.

Nice work, always liked mini foam cores.

yeah it depends what your pressing fibreglass to, if your just putting glass onto a wood board, then no vacuum is necessary, however better results are achieved with vacuum. If your pressing fibreglass inbetween plies in a wood board it probably isnt necessary, but again better results are achieved with vacuum. If your pressing fibreglass in a complete fiberglass board it isnt necessary, but once again better results are achieved with vacuum.

However, if you are pressing foamcores like mine, i wouldnt even think about tying it without vacuum. sure it could probably be done, but its worth using vacuum. You could probably use a roarockit kit for a board like this, but i would advise against doing so. this is because you have no idea of the pressure, and the board would ideally be in the bag for 24 hours. Something to think about though.
    thanks again

Ok thanks for your help, i will probably buy a roarockit any way and test, i heard it can give 15 psi.

I'll let you know how it goes, thanks.

15 psi is bad, it is pressure higher than standard pressure, it must be -15psi, or something like that
anyway good luck, make sure you post the results

a roarockit would be able to pull it off... it's been done before.

seems like there's a lot more to know. nice board btw... it sort of reminds me of demitri milovich's early winterstick skateboard decks.

well there you go, i was wrong. As i said i was uncertain about its capabilities.

the winterstick boards are sick, im thinking of designing a surfboard with the tail like a winterstick snowboard, but in a flextail, on a fish.
