Default question on acryl gel graphic transfer

I'm going to be using this method: The BackRoom @ Shutterblade.Net: How to transfer printed graphics to your deck to transfer some printed graphics to one of my blank boards. I can't find the Amsterdam Acryl Gel Gloss online anywhere, so I was wondering if using this would work as well: Discount Art Supplies | Craft Supplies | Art Supply Store Online | MisterArt.com .

I don't know much about these kinds of gels and there seems to be a lot of different kinds to choose from that sound really different from one another, and I don't know which would do the job.

could someone point me in the right direction?

Acyrilic Medium(Gels): Gloss or Matte finish. Try the Windsor & Newton (Gloss). Most brands generally serve the same purpose.

    - Realize when the medium drys, it will have a tactile feel of rubber or urethane.

    - The technique this person describes looks labor intensive. Sooo, If you choose to use a printer, stay away from heavy gauge paper.

Option 2: (easier and similar to the above)

    - Cut the graphic out from a printed image, poster, mag. You pick.

    - Spray the back of the image w/ Spray Adhesive (looks like a spray paint can), and apply on your skate deck or surface of choice.

    - Once the image is on, w/ a disposable 3 inch painting brush, apply the Acrylic Gel on the entire image and slightly beyond it edges.

You'll soon find out there are other methods of image transferring. Share your results when you finish!

borocay, in what way is your suggested method similar? other than the use of gel medium that is. You are suggesting simply gluing a picture to the deck, not doing any kind of image transfer.

I believe most any gel acrylic medium will work. Make sure it is reasonably transparent as some are more opaque. I prefer the liquid type over the gel type b/c it spreads better. You can certainly apply it to paper, then wet the paper when the medium dries, to remove it. I found that this is a dificult skill, almost an artform in itself. The easiest method is to print onto a tranparency the apply spray clear to fix the inkjet ink, otherwise it will run. Then simply apply the acrylic medium to the tranparency ink side, place it on your wood, then gently press out the air bubbles. After it dries, pull the transparency out. It works quite well.

However, this method is overall probably more trouble than it is worth. The transparency is expensive to use as a tranfer medium and you can truly apply the transparency to the board itself and clear over it. Waterslide decal paper should work better and be more consistent. Also, epoxy does a better job tranfering the image to the wood, its just heavier.

That's right, no image transfer by true definition. Cut, Paste and Seal.
