Default foolproof way of painting pinstripes

so tonight I'm finishing a board before I sell it to my boss (I'm guessing it's for his kids to learn how to skateboard) and I decided to put some pinstripes on the top of the board before putting on some clear griptape.

I came up with the idea a while back but this is the first time trying it out. this method is almost entirely foolproof, and I'm sure some have done this before. I bought some matte-mat waterbase sealer in the art department at Wal-mart for some paintings on canvas, but thought this would be sweet to try too.

take some masking tape and lay two strips down so that the pinstrip that you want to create is in the middle of the two pieces of masking tape. take some matte-mat and paint a thin coat in the middle of the two pieces of masking tape where the pinstripe will be made. the matte-mat seals the gap between the two pieces of masking tape so there will be no bleeding once you apply your paint. let the matte-mat dry for 15-20 minutes and then apply the paint. I choose acrylic because it dries fast and thick. after the paint dries carefully peel off the masking tape and you've got some perfect pinstripes.

like I said, this has definitely been done before, but for those who don't know much about paint and sealers, I think this is some good common knowledge to share.

Great idea. Here's another way to do it.

This is stencil tape designed to make perfect pinstripes.
I've got a sample roll of this stuff around the garage somewhere.
If I can find it I'll give it a try and post the results.

that's interesting, I didn't know you could buy stuff like that. I'm not sure how much that costs, but I spent about $9 total for the matte-mat, masking tape and acrylic paint.
definitely post your results if you decide to try it. it's pretty sweet since you can make any size pinstripes in very little time and effort.
