    Default Wrap your own deck

So my Dh race started to delaminate so i fixed that. Now i am getting a new board for DH since i want to try something different for DH and I was looking for something to use my old DHR for. I was watching a LY video a while ago and there was a 7 ply DHR wrapped in Carbon fiber that got run over by a car and survived. Since my DHR is already Delam'ing i was thinking i could go ahead and take off 4 plies and wrap it myself. What do you guys think about this? I dont actually know how to use Carbon fiber but if i start really seriously considering this idea i can figure this out. Do you think it would work?

sounds like it would be cool. You just have to get four plys off clean so the base is very clean and even.

yes, it could work, funnily enough the core could be air and with enough carbon it would work...

I'd consider skeletonising rather than sanding the whole thing down, that sounds like a nightmare time wise.
then plug all the holes with foam and go for it.

I was going to Start from where the deck is already Delam'ing and then pry it apart with a utility knife, screwdriver or something then sand it down.

Sorry but I really don't know what any of that means. I haven't even made a board before! lol.

Drill lots of holes, almost the whole way through, plug them up with something hard and light, carbon.

I see. Thats very clever. Would you suggest doing that instead of taking off some plies? Do you think you could do both without compromising the structural integrity of the deck?

I've not done it myself, so I hesitate to endorse it too loudly-
but I have read about it being done successfully to evos.

Chicago used to router out slots and fill them too.

ok. I wont be too sad if the deck is ruined. Im going to take off the bottom plies so i can keep the custom graphic. How exactly would you go about wrapping a board with Carbon Fiber? Im sure i can find directions some where but research is for the weak. (sarcasm)

If he can just peel the plies off he can take off the 4 and skeletonize it (new word?).

Just make sure if you do it you add more layers to the bottom like carbon or glass. drilling lots of holes compromises the woods structure and you have to reinforce it (If you want a good explanation of it, lookup the thread where the kid took a hole saw to his evo all the way through).

I was going to either wrap it or skeletonize it. Im pretty sure that i want to wrap it. I have to research what kind of carbon fibre i need. It should turn out pretty cool tho.

I'm also debating on re-overhauling an old 9-ply Evo I have. I was initially just thinking of adding a couple of CF sheets to the bottom, but after reading this post I've been debating on lightening it up.

I was thinking of routering out a big slot down the centre and then putting in a carbon wrapped foam beam, similar to what Rayne was doing with their CF Hellcats. I have no experience doing this so any recommendations would be appreciated. How many plies of CF and what thickness foam would you guys recommend? Any other suggestions on lightening short of trying to remove a couple of wood plies from my Evo and just adding more CF to the bottom? I'd ideally like to try and get things as light and stiff as possible.

been thinkin abuot this for a long time too

however i wouldnt take out the centre of the board like rayne. im pretty sure its a thinner deck then with a bar of foam. for a boar already done ive route 2 slots down with side leaving the centre 'beam' untouched.

does this make sense i know in my head it does but i dont think ive explained it well.
