Question Help me get into board building

Alright well for some time now I've been wanting to start building long boards, but I have no idea where to start. Basicallywhat I'm asking is what will I need, how much is it, and where I can buy it.

Good intro here.... :: FOOLPROOF DIY SKATEBOARD FOAM MOLD BUILD

Also, I think there is a lot more info about deckmaking on the Fish than on the Toothless site but you have to use the search. Both are good.

    ^^^^^All very good.

Take some time and search the builders forum, so much info here it's ridiculous. You may have to filter through threads but almost all of your answers are there.

seconded on roarockit. kit is super easy to learn, process is almost foolproof (finding leaks is a ####### bitch tho!!), and i feel you have far greater versatility than with a normal press.

and yes, read up a lot, dont dive in, make sure you have all the tools etc. and have fun!!

if you've never done woodwork before, here's a suggestion - get some cheap plywood or even scraps from a building site and make a bunch of boards. You will undoubtedly screw up the first couple you make, so why pay a lot for it? Not that I doubt your abilities, but you'll finish the first one and think to yourself, "Oh, I shoulda made it this size, or I shoulda done the wheelwells before the roundover, or this shape is too narrow in the tail."

Then when you get a shape you like at a length/width you like, and you have an idea what order to do things in, you can make something that you'll wanna keep. I know it sounds a little Karate Kid-ish, but it's what usually happens.

Oh, and thirded on the Roarockit! That will take you to the next level. And if you wanna experiment with fibreglass and such, Ted's bag is the way to go!

Hey Ted - you should use that in your advertising!

"You should see what I can do with my bag"
"My bag is just what you need"
"Thousands of happy people love my bag"
"See what my bag can do for you"
"Behind all good wood is a great bag"
"My bag will make your wood happy"

    +1

those kits rock. I got my start with a toothless press but the vacuum kit made making complex curves and kicks MUCH easier. Long as you don't mind the dust from shaping your mold :P
You haven't done slalom til you've dodged hobos and students to get to class.
