I like the wood more in its natural color. very nice work, I've been wanting to do that myself.

That right there is a jointing plane (#5? #7?) and they are made exactly for this kind of thing.

yeah it is a 7" hand plane it cost about 8 bucks at home depot. that is by far what took the longest time dropping the concave to just over a centimeter. All in all the planing took about 5 hours(but i am a perfectionist).

i had the wrong plane, i thought he was talking about the really long one in boby's pics. That is a jointing plane, yours is a block/hand plane, both good, but useful for different things

if you are going to do concave by hand again, maybe try to find a concave draw knife. still hands on but a tool made for the job.

HUH? You're going with judges? I missed a bunch of stuff in the internet world, I was out of the country for a couple weeks and shooting ncaa basketball for a couple weeks before that, I missed that revelation. I remember suggesting it in that other thread though, did you get pro judges for this?

Voting will begin May 4 and run for 7 days. I will be running the standard poll PLUS I have a small group of judges set aside. If for any reason the polling goes awry I will declare the poll moot and the decision of the winner will be made by the judges. The judges will judge the contest also to give us a double scoring system this time. You will have the popular vote total plus the technical vote from the judges. The conditions of this voting process will be described in the voting poll thread. Entries will receive points for the popular vote and those will be added to the points from the technical judging hopefully culminating in a winner. The voting this time is a trial run for the way things may be done in the future. This time we have a redundant voting/judging system in place to safeguard against fraud. The popular vote may be thrown out upon my say so at anytime I see it fit to do so. So keep it clean.
