how long do you think it'll take to fully cure now?
when glassing, you will get the best results by laying it "wet on wet." Meaning while the first layer is wet, lay up another layer right away.

Re: Fiberglassing without a bag 101
One question, i am vacuum pressing a board, i plan on using a wood core for the first few, i heard to use :
20 oz triax knitted glass
i found:
20oz Warp Triaxial E-Glass 50" Wide
what the heck does the warp and e-glass part mean?

Re: Fiberglassing without a bag 101
What that looks like to me is some thing the company just threw in. I have never heard or seen material called warp. But Fiberglass, Carbon Fiber - Fibre Glast Developments Corp. is a great site and I have ordered from them before. That other site looks kinda iffy.

Re: Fiberglassing without a bag 101
others have ordered from the one i linked, but ill go with your company. Warp just refers to it being a knit instead of being just loose fibers i believe

think about how fiberglass works, or for that case take a piece of paper to represent it. Take the paper and fold it up on each side, it will fold in the middle and have no structural strength, now take that same piece of paper and situate so that it could simulate fiberglass on the bottom of the board, hold it by each of the ends and push on the middle.... it has alot more strength to it....
my example is kinda wack but i hope you understand!! FIberglass works best under tension! I would work on top, just not as well...
that is what i think/know so far, haven't been working with fiber too long!!

Re: Fiberglassing without a bag 101
Your questions are too general for many people to want to answer them... Really it indicates that you just need to read around more. Do searches here and on the net, the info is out there and you have to piece together what you are going to do. Its an involved process and nobody is going to be able to give you every piece of info you need. Read around more and plan a simple deck and layup. Try it out and learn from your mistakes. You have to start somewhere, and there is a ton of info out there already that will answer all your questions and more.
Most importantly, share what you build here!

Re: Fiberglassing without a bag 101
BEWARE
do not layup fiberglass over rust-oleum specialty florecent spray paint. Ive done composites over spray paint countless times without any problems but this paint was different and had a chalky quality to it but I didn't think to much about it made sure it dried for a day etc but it ended up causing a pretty bad delaming problem. luckily it seems like the fiberglass will be able to be removed cleanly and I will be able just use a different type of paint and redo the composites.

Re: Fiberglassing without a bag 101
Quick question, I have some boards that I previously stained and varnished...can I sand off the varnish and apply a fiber-glass matt to the bottom? I was going to sand it off and wipe it down with DNA...
