Nose/Tail Guard

I'm going to build my first longboard this summer, and I would like to give it some sort of nose and tail guard so that it wont get cut up.

Should i just make this out of some high density plastic and glue it on with titebond III?

Anyone have any experience with these? If so, please make a seggustion.

I've tried glueing it up in the lamination process sort-of how Lib-tech does with their decks, but its imo too much work for a slide deck that is going to be abused. The quickest and cheapest way I found to add a little protection other than nose-bones/tail-bones is to lay down a little bit of hot glue around the edges.

Thanks, I might just try that, it seems like it would have to be reapplied every time though. Anyone else?

I have cut plastic cutting boards to shape and bolted them on. Worked well enough.

Cut up some old tire tread and use that- it'll look sick.

Dip the nose in fiberglass resin and finish with 4-5 coats of plasticoat (liquid rubber in a spray can).

I was going to suggest resin, but it's pretty brittle. A good bang would shatter it, unless this liquid rubber stops that? Very interested if it does.

I use liquid plastic. It's kinda like epoxy, but smells better.
Doesn't wear to bad, doesn't shatter, and can be shaped and colored.

I think I may do that. How would you recommend keeping it on the board. I've read that if you screw it on, that eventually the screw and nuts and everything will get striped. Would you recommend hot gluing it on.

Wow, 2008!

In my experience, hot glue sucks. It always comes loose. I'd probably look at screws or bolts myself, but if you're not down with that, Shoe Goo is a good, strong glue that can take some flexing and still hold.
