Default The Official End of Year Build Off Entry Thread.

Here it is. The entry thread.
Post up your entries for the End Of Year Lowered/Drop Thru Build Off.
All entries have to be either lowered or a drop thru. Please include photos documenting your building process. example in the press, just out of the press, during shaping, finished product. You can show more if you like. Please do.

This thread will be active until January 7. At that time I will close the thread and the voting wil begin.

Voting will be done in two ways this time.
    1. the Technical Vote. Only builders get to vote on this. If you entered a board in the contest you get to vote on the other boards entered (but not your own) on a 10 point system. All points will be added up. Most points win.

    2. the Popular Vote. This is open to everybody. I will create a poll for the voting. You get to vote for your favorite board. Please try to be objective. Please try to base your voting on the build its self.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. More info on the voting process will come later.

    So let's see those entries.

Here it is guys. It's my first build and I'm really pleased with how it came out.
It is a drop through pintail for cruising and carving.
Dimensions are 46" long by 11" wide.
It's made from 3 sheets of 1/4" oak plywood, with about a 1/4" of concave, no camber.

    Here's the super-simple press...

Laying out the shape on the blank...

    The rough cut...

Starting to lay on the polyacrylic....

    Concave shot...

    And without further ado....

And it's tight, but there is clearance there with 76mm wheels.

What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

Ok, here it is. Big Bertha.

    Dimensions = 43in x 9.75in w/ 2in drop and 3/8in concave.

Construction = 5/8in BB and 3 layers (1 top, 2 bottom) of fiberglass (cloth).

    Flex = stiff.

The press (used for a board a long time ago and was dismantled, but was rebuilt, reassembled, and improved for this board within the building time).

    Out of the press concave.

    Cut and sanded.

    Paint.

    First layer of glass

After all 3 layers of glass, edged sanded, and gripped. Read to ride.

This was a really fun build, and sorry I don't have any pics of it set-up with hardware. It was delivered and will be loved by my friend Josh (sf name - Voxheed Longboards). Note: Josh was not charged for this board .

Hey, now I can only wonder who owns that.....
Oh wait I do and it is a superb board if you ask me.
Even though I got it basically half off was worth it,
cause it is my first drop deck and it rides beautifully.

Please refrain from quoting all the pictures from an entry please.
It'll be less confusing that way.

Sweet, longer evo with multiple wheelbases. You could sell these with no problems.

Almost everyone is guaranteed a place on the podium if there are only 4 entries, especially if one ends up getting disqualified. That Texas board has one of the most beautiful stain jobs I have ever seen, everything is so well complemented, and that sheen along with the stained wheels, it's art I tells ya.

We still have a few more days to get an entry in. So far this turn out is pretty slim. I often worry about low turn out, esp when the theme is harder than many builders are used too. Still I have to push.

I'm still glad, as it was the incentive I needed to get me going on this board.
And now I have a new board to ride!

This is my second build. The design concept was to build a minimal cruiser/pumper; use as little wood as possible without compromising usability. Hence the thin waist, simple design, and relatively short deck. Made from two sheets of 1/4" BB, laminated in a concave + camber press, bonded with Tightbond II. The concave didnt come out as deep as I planned due to springback, but there's still about 3/16". The artwork, a bat fighting a bull, was done by my good friend A. Wei using sharpie, and was inspired by the Lamborghini Murcielago. Randal 180's, ABEC 11 Grippins, and Bones Reds, and a cut up 1/8th inch riser round it all out.
