Default Speedboard

My first speed board. Drop deck semi flush cut. 9 1/2" wide. 36" wheel base. 5 1/8" BB plys. 1/2" concave. Front end wedged up 15 to 20 degrees or so. RII 180's. Strikers 77mm 84a. Totally unfinished. Stiff as hale.

Is the concave too much? and should I taper the back some more? There will be a hole in the back for easy carrying.

Thats motivating to me, I have been thinking about making a speed board but really have no clue for the ends........ but this deck and the killer tutorial in another thread for the drop deck are getting me stoked to take the plunge, I want to use Randal 180s........ Let us know how you like it, can you compare it with other speed boards you own? Or at least friends speed boards?

thanks

I haven't tried too many. Rode an Evo briefly. This is much lighter. BB tends to be light. Fair being fair, I can't compare it to much. I'm not a speed boarder, but I figure I'll try it and start real slow, working on my drifts.

Thank you for the encouragement. I;m not sure what the total length is. It is quite long. The important parameter is the wheelbase (inner truch screw to inner truck screw). It is 36". 30" to 36" should be good for a speed board. There is extra length on the back for a carry handle (for those uphill walks).

What a compliment it is, for a friend to actually buy the wheels, trucks, and hardware to fasion a board given to them by me. Randal II's flipped, 90 flys, some hard bushings. He's got an Evo, so he lets me ride it when we go out. So stable at speed after riding the Dervish.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I know it's an old post but I couldn't resist after seeing it and riding it with those gigantic wheels.

The board and bushing stiffness make the difference. It is easily steerable over 20-30 MPH. At that speed maintaining a straight line on something as flimsy as a Dervish is tough, let alone, steering.

Nice thought. I prefer the gnar look of a beat up nose.

Take a look at the second pic on the top row. Pretty basic press. Could certainly use some improving.

The tremendous concave makes a huge difference, about 3/4".

Hehe, Art, I did not get the humor of this post til I realized the 9 month difference in posts! Or perhaps its been set up for a while? I should hope so as its a nice board. Shame to think it was sitting around all this time. I like the flush mount drop through design. I wonder about the flipped randal in front... Is it very dead feeling? I imagine not with all the wedging but I know flipping the hangar changes the feel of the truck substantially. I'm glad you opted not to go with the highly tapered rear like in the first pictures. It looks good the way you have it.

Hey Bryan, thanks for the post. I saw that big write-up on pavedwave. Big time baby. It's at www.pavedwave.org under the gear section. You guys should check it out. Your boards are beautiful. Sounds like there is a crew around Raleigh who all have your boards. I'm just getting into LDP. Almost done with a board. Got my Bennet/Tracker/BigZigs ready to go.

The SB is wedged in front but with flipped hangers, which lowers it a bit. Unflipped it was a bit twitchy. Bushings are red Kiro Bitch metal inserts and a regular yellow Randal for front and back. Seems just right to me. Of course, I know squat about SBing.

I made one similar for my brother, but tapered like the design and it felt too narrow in the back.
