Default argyle question

If I am to get this argyle effect, don't pay attention to fairy boy, how would i go about painting the design?

To get a nice contrasting white line, would i have to paint in layers starting with a white base coat and then paint the gray and black diamonds on top leaving enough white to appear as lines?

or is it possible to just paint the gray/black diamonds and paint the white lines last?

Ideally i want the white to be as white as possible and i have a feeling painting white on top of black and gray MIGHT leave me with two-toned whitish lines....

anyway im set on the same color and pattern and ill fidget with it myself when i have some time but i was just curious to see what you guys thought.

Thanks

Hmm...

You could lay down the white primer coat(s), spray adhesive strings or thread in the pattern mentioned, paint the whole thing gray (I'm thinking spray paint btw), then you can stencil out your black diamonds, and finally at the end lift up your strings. just a thought.

What are you using to paint this? I'm and arsits, and I use acrylics. Titanium white acrylic paint is very opaque (ie *not see though). Most white paints are quite opaque because the pigment particles are larger and more abundant, so painting the white last should work just fine. If you are using acrylics, use Titanium White, and stay away from zinc white.

Also, if you go with acrylics, PM me and I'll give you some tips on how to get a super clean line when taping (I've done it a few times )

Just buy a piece of fabric and use fiberglass resin to attach it. It'll be much easier and you'll get better results.

wells, its hugs and kisses! I dont need your love this is completely physical.

Wow so many ideas. Being petty lazy I thought spray painting would be the easiest. Im not an artist at all so i have no experience with acrylics...

I gues using ribbon could work out and use the first technique mentioned....

ah geez

I agree with Wells. Fabric/glass would be a great way to go. I've had success using fabric and Polycrylic as well.

Edit:I think that it would actually be much easier then paint.
