i have my board in the press but i forgot a key things, the varnish
anybody who is knowlageable about varnish can you please tell me what the point of it is and what is a good kind of varnish to buy. would wood stainers work? i honstly have no idea please let me know
I have had excellent results with Marine Spar Varnish. It has a brownish tint which gives the wood a really rich color. Plus it contains UV protection and is waterproof which is good. Hope this helps.
PS you can find this at any Lowes, ACE, Home Depot, ect...

Varnish seals the wood, provides some water protection and improves the appearance of the wood. Varnish is limited in some respects as to how much gloss you can get from it. If you want the really wet look, automotive type finish, a 2 part polyurethane is the best way to go. If not, varnish works very well, and as the previous poster mentioned a marine varnish if not too expensive may be a good choice and should not yellow with age and sun exposure.
