My brother, Louis, purchased a Landyachtz Totem Pintail. It was never used. So I suggested, instead of selling, why not cut it up. The new, drop hammer, looks like the same mold and shape, but with cut out. And he really like that board. So here is what we came up with.
First the drop thru holes were cut, then the new shape was cut, sanded, then a nice new coat of polyurethane. Ready to roll. Rides great, reasonably stable, carves nice, and handles Gumballs easily.
Thanks again. The wheelbase is not really designed for DH, but makes a great carver, freeride and mild DH. Which is what he was after.
26.6" sounds about right for the WB. Flex, there is some, but mostly stiff.
It does get close to wheel bite, with EXTREMELY lose trucks, and flipped. It is set-up with flipped tail and unflipped nose at the moment, and doesnt get even close. Wheelbite issues can be avoided with a well designed cut-out. The lines were taken of my proto speedboard(which handles gummys no problem), but were adjusted slightly to allow more footspace. The 'hybrid wheelwells' also help wheelbite .
He will probably get some new bushings. After riding Red Holey bushings nothing compares!
