Hey guys, I need some help choosing a first-timer board.
First off, I'm looking to campus cruise and carve, mostly gentle hills and street-concrete. I'm 5'9" and 150lbs clothed. Um... yeah. Budget is $250 but preferably under.
I've tried a bunch of boards in shops, and my friend's 45"+ pintail sector9. (I think it was the Uluwatu?) Anyway, I liked flexy boards, and while the longish board felt stable, is was also really heavy and clumsy.
Checkout Insect. The Big Bug in particular sounds right for you. Its got the flex your looking for and is wonderful for cruising. You're going to be scraping the upper limit of your budget if you go wih it though. The hypercarve is also a good board, but keep in mind that it has zero camber/concave. However, it is significantly cheaper than anything you're going to find from insect.

I should mention that I found longer boards to be clumsy-feeling underfoot. Do the Hyper Carve and Big Bug not have this feeling? Or is a longer board a generally good idea for a novice rider?
From those two i would go with the Ransom, but you might want to look at the Neversummer Norad cuz ive heard that the shape of the Ransom and Concept (both the same) can get annoying. The Spliff is also a good board, but i would really try to keep the board above 35" for carving commuting. The Loaded Vangaurd might be nice, kinda pricy though. NeverSummer makes amazing boards that last forever.
