Default Hey long distance pushers

My long distance deck has served its time and is ready to be retired. I am looking at the subsonic raven. I have plenty of truck options to play around with, but I am not sure about wheels. The site has it set up with Flys, 90mm seems a little big for me so maybe a smaller flywheel or something else? I have no experience with the flys, I mostly ride grippins and the old GOS wheels. What do you guys use? what do you suggest.

Side note: do Holey hangers fit randal base plates?

Big wheels are going to roll faster, and roll over stuff more easily.

My friend has 90mm flys on his dervish ( I know, it's rediculous.........) but they're a good, fast wheel.

I have 81a grippins and love 'em. What you can do is just buy the deck, try out ur grippins, and if you don't like them, buy some flys.

Once they get going fast, which takes longer, then they roll faster. For distance pushing however they create a greater amount of resistance in the beginning whereas a wheel in the >80 mm range gets up to speed FASTER and is easier to get moving and is closer to the ground requiring less leg strain to get your push on.

In the terms of FASTER, if me and someone else of comparable skating experience are push racing on a flat quarter mile track and I have 62mm bennett alligators and the other person has 97 mm flywheels I'm winning no doubt. Anyway distance skating isn't really all about the speed.

As for your raven, personally I'd look into some mid-duro 77mm strikers.

Why do you say your board is ready to be retired?

holeys are a bit different to randal baseplates, holeys wont fit in to all randal dropthroughs

Ready for retirement because I have been riding it hard for over 2 years, it has seen its better days. I ahve retired it before but i always seem to go back to it. I made it myself and have put a lot of miles on it, it is very comfortable and i probobly won't ever retire it until it breaks. The raven is comparable in size and shape, I think it will be a good replcement.
I don't want huge wheels, if I went flys i was thinking 83mm. I have been looking for an excuse to buy sone strikers for a while, they make sense for this set up, especially the narrow contact patch. My only concern is that they will breaak loose to easily, that is an issue i have with the GOS.
As far as the trucks I asked about the base plate because i was thinking Holeys with a 35 base pale in the back but I can just do firmer bushings in the rear.
thanks for the feedback.

Crails?

I wouldn't really think those as an ideal truck for long distance pushing. Not so carvy or loose.

I dont consider Crails a pumping style truck. (42% baseplates).
though mine have changed character since adding Karrot stims.

I would suggest a higher angle truck such as Holey or Paris-(maybe on a lower angle Randal plate for the rear)

Crails are probably the last thing you want for a pushing deck, they're kinda high to begin with and they just feel awkward at low speeds.
