Default Highlander III for LDP?

I'm looking to get my first LDP deck. I know. Buy a Roe, or a LBL, or a Subsonic, or a Galac. But this deck seems pretty close to ideal except for the front cutouts, snappy flexy and 5 WB's from 26.75" - 31". Does anyone know how wide this deck is at the second (towards center of deck) set of bolt holes up front? The only problem I see with this deck for LDP is the width (for pumping leverage) up front. Am I missing some obvious weakness in the decks shape or construction (for LDP purposes). I appreciate your advice .

Because of the cutouts, you cant stand right over the front truck, which helps when accelerating...

concave matters too if you are going to LDP. you want your feet to be locked in while you pump hard!

actually all flat boards are quite comfy when your going distances.

if you want a very good pumper for initial LDP go for the 44 kicktail deck from fibreflex. i cut out the tail and made it into a damn good pumper, looking at it now i would have just left the tail but it has already the perfect wheelbase for pumping and flex as well, and it also has nice mellow concave to keep you locked in the front.

GS FIBREFLEX D-105 G&S Fibreflex 44' Kicktail Slight Concave SKATEBOARDING OUTDOORS

i traveled 90+ miles on it for the last ultraskate. ^_^

You are totally right - but besides those cutouts, that thing looks a lot like a Roe Mermaid...
(which first and foremost, I know, begs the question "why not just buy a Mermaid?")

But I just had a thought - I wonder if you could take a veneer (or possibly a few layers of composite material like Kevlar or Carbon Fiber, or actually non-woven fiberglass chop-mat) and laminate it on top of the board just over the front trucks, creating a platform to span the cutouts, leaving you with huge wheelwells AND somewhere to put your front foot for pumping?
You could even mix up some resin with some shredded fiberglass chop-mat and give a little extra supoprt by filling the wheelwell edges in - making them taper to the veneer/composite like concave dishes, giving the foot area a little more strength as well... ?

Then it would be like a Mermaid WITH wheelwells.

uh.

that board barely flexes..at least for me. tried standing on it, and i prefer the bigfish way better.
then again, i weigh only 125lbs.

Well I'm not overly patient, so I got contacted two SFers who had admitted they owned a Highlander III's and then ordered one from DBS. The board is flexible enough for my 205 lbs. It's light and super thin, like 3/8" or less. Geolemon, I like the idea and I might have to try something like that eventually. Right now I need to properly fix my bennett on which the spherical bearing came loose when the bottom bushing blew out and I didn't notice right away. I would be able to get slighty better leverage if it didn't have cutouts but I don't think the difference is that big of a deal. The concave also seems fine but I don't think anything I've done actually qualifies as LDP yet .
