I'm new to the skateboarding scene, but now love to cruise around. I'd really like to commute to work as well. (and cruise with my 13 yr old son) Currently, I have a G&S 44" Blacktip with 70mm wheels, that I purchased at a garage sale. After awhile, I noticed it is a bit soft and saggy. I sometimes bite it cause it bounces while I am pushing.
So, I am looking to get a different board, and I think I want a stiffer and a little shorter board. The surfaces here are a mix of everything from decent smooth cement sidewalks, to cracked sidewalks, to ashpalt. I am 30 yrs old and 210lbs so I was thinking a stiffer board might be the ticket. I'd like a board that would stay stiff over the years as well.
Perhaps a Super Cruiser from Sector 9? I have one and ive ridden that thing through storms and it is still stiff at it was out of the box (There is a bit of flex in it, it's not like a inch of oak)
I'm 31 and weigh the exact same as you. I've been skating again for about 3 months now.
Just today I received my new board which is Gravity Larry Bertlemann model. I wanted a board for just cruising around the streets when I didn't feel like driving to the skatepark. I've ridden it a couple of times and I love it! I've got the amber Tunnel Rocks on it and they ride great on asphalt.
I bought this board after reading a lot of rave reviews about it, and so far it lives up to the hype. It's 33" long and I haven't noticed any flex. I think it would be a great fit for what you're looking for.
Gravity is currently out of these boards, but I bought mine from Daddies Board Shop, and they did a great job putting it together for me. I took it straight out of the box and rode it without having to adjust a thing.
I got a bit impatient as I have vacation coming up, and wanted a new board. I ended up getting a sector9 California Grown. I was looking around and decided I wanted to have a kicktail as well. The local skate shop had one on hand and it felt like it fit. Guess if I don't like it I can give it to my son so he can keep up....and I can hunt for another one.
