EDIT: I think I've decided on
Dervish
Orangatangs In heat
and Paris trucks
My only question now is will paris trucks be good for what I'm looking for? Or should I just stick to the r2 180s? Thanks
Ok, so eventually I'm going to get around to making a board for commuting on, and have another board for downhill.
I pretty much just want to have a board that carves/pumps and keeps good speed when I push it. I'd maybe like to slide it a bit too
So far I was thinking: (and other recommendations are welcome)
-Dervish (I heard that the vanguard was too carvy for commuting, but the dervish still can carve well, so I was thinking this would be pretty good for commuting, I know the dervish is pretty long/big, but since I want a pumper/carver as well I'm guessing I'll have to sacrifice size for that. I just want to make sure this deck is fine for keeping speed after pushing, I'm guessing that mainly depends on bearings though)
However I have no idea how heavy this is in person, which may make pushing it a pain in the ass, I'm sure it'll be fine though
-lime (80a) bigzigs ---NO IDEA what to do for wheels, I'm not sure if super hard duro are good for cruising or if softer ones are, really I just want a smooth ride that's pumpable, but can slide (I know sliding is based on skill, so I'm not taking this TOO seriously, just needs to be slidable for fun). I thought that soft wheels were for downhill and were harder to commute with (not sure why, maybe sticks to crap on the ground more lol) so should I go with like 83a duro'd wheels or will this make my feet vibrate like hell everytime I go over somewhat rough areas? (not fun for commuting lol)
-trucks --no idea, I'm getting randal r2 180mm trucks on my downhill board, will these be fine for commuting/carving/pumping? because if these are fine for them I'd rather just swap trucks to save money
Re: Need help with a commuting/carving/pumping setup!
For wheels, go to the wheels and bearings forum and read the sticky about wheels. You have to factor in what kind of pavement you'll be riding on, and other preferences. BigZigs are great wheels though.
RII 180s are good for carving/commuting, not ideal for pumping but it can definitely be done.
Put in some time searching the forums and ask specific questions. You'll be glad you did the searching, theres tons of info on this site.
Re: Need help with a commuting/carving/pumping setup!
From my experience Dervish's are absolutle rubbish for pumping (though they are lovely for just about everything else - especially deep carving). Drop throughs don't pump well because the deck swings under the axle line. Trust me you need a bit of height instead! Go for a deck with 1/2" risers (risers=pumping power).
The Dervish is very light, but I've recently found that lightweight doesn't necessarily make a good long distance commuter - sometimes some weight adds momentum & smooths speed which helps if you have a specific cadence which I have (somewhere between slow and very slow)!
Lime BigZigs are lovely. Should do you for an all round wheel unless the local pavement is really bad. The pinks BZ's are as perfect as you'd ever find IMHO.
Paris =OK
Randals=utter pants
Holeys=da mutts nuts (but Loaded can't be bothered to make cutouts for them)!
Re: Need help with a commuting/carving/pumping setup!
LDP sucks unless you're using an LDP specific board and they are not versatile at all, I'd stick with pushing around the d-seed and still have the versatility that it has
Re: Need help with a commuting/carving/pumping setup!
Get an evo with holeys. It's really low to the ground, and it is pumped so easily. Only problem is it cant really carve. A demonseed is a good board too, just get your board with holeys.

Evo, Lime BZ's, 50 degree randals (front flipped), Black JimZ bushings, Edger grip, Biltins
Some other boards I never ride
Re: Need help with a commuting/carving/pumping setup!
Paris trucks are not stable at all. They are smoother and more carvy than randals. More responsive too. Randals are still great carving/commuting trucks though. If I were you I'd put some real DH trucks on my DH board, (like maybe Bears?) and I'd put the randals on the dervish.
