Longboard Cruisers, Carving, Commuting, Long Distance Pumping and BoardwalkingWhen it's all about the ride, the general discipline of riding a longboard.
i had an amazing ride today! good thing i just saw this thread
i live on a decently big straight down hill that ends at the foot of another really big straight hill so that the two kinda form a U. i've been bombing these hills since i got my first board and i've always thought it would be cool to come down the side that my house is on and drift into my driveway..... but i've always wussed out of trying it because i thought the hill was too fast (i took my gps out to it today and hit 40) and i also didnt really know how to throw a toeside pre drift. But today!!! today was different!! today i started walking higher and higher up the hill and drifting into my driveway, until finnally i grew a pair and went from the top...... came bombin down the hill super fast (ok on that first one i might have put a foot down for a second or two) put my hand down, kicked the back leg out, slid like 10 feet and then railed the turn and then i was overcome with stoke because i never thought in a million years when i started skating that i would ever be able to do something like that. and now my house is the one with huge 'thane lines out front because once i nailed the turn i couldnt stop 'til the sun set (welllll i might have stopped a couple times so i could go get my sammich on) aaaaand i didnt fall! yah. good day.
another catastrophe, shot the board out front and landed on my right wrist and at the same time heard my right knee pop. had wrist protection and a knee wrap on but still feel the pain. this sucks. at this rate i'll be in a wheel chair by Christmas. gonna have to stick to the larger boards and softer wheels until spring. too much stuff on the roads/trails right now.

I think i did the best sliding i have ever done with loose randall 42s and 83a big zigs today! the pockets man! its all in the motha fukkkin pockets!!! felt like i was snowboarding!!! looooong ass standups, easy as hell normal and switch colemans, easy as pie toeside slides.
and then all it took was to tightten the trucks by 1.5 turns and take that baby up to 40! ooooh so sick!

dont know... were we able to see what place we got? i think i did ok. a good variation of slides. cant compete with the pros of course... ( i thought they were going to have a pro division for them... never had a a chance... lol)
Rode my loaded pintail to the store to pick up some ice cream. I love the flex of the pintail, it just soaks up the imperfections of the pavement. As I cruised past a man walking his dog and turned in to my apt, he passed commenting on how quiet my board was. He said that his dog normally goes crazy when a skateboard passes but his dog didn't pay any attention to me. I explained to him that it was a longboard and it uses softer wheels which makes it quiet. He said "wow very nice" and went along his way.
Went out to my friends house today, its about 6 miles with a couple hills, realized i went the wrong way, been skating for an hour and realized that once i got back home it would be too late to go to his house so i skated home and called it a day
The mating dance of the elusive longboarder is the cross-step into G-turn. So break out the Dancer, show her your big wood, and start making her wet with your mad dancing.
Great ride today, only got out for about 2 hours, but got a lot done. The wifey hit her first heelside 360s today. I got to work on smoother toeside 360s into other variations.
And we met a guy riding an electric bike that could do 40mph! It was sick, we saw him just haulin' up our hill, no sound, and were like...wtf?!?!?!? He was going so fast uphill it just looked...weird. But cool.

Hahahaha, I had a sick ride today only like an hour and a half But i wanted to break in and get comfortable with my New Nemesis, setup with Durian 86a freerides, Crails, and Vicious!
I practiced my frontside 180's, Colemans, and Pendies. The Vicious feels like there's tacky glue holding you onto the board!

Today was quite a day. I met up with my friend who lives right next to Rutgers Busch Campus. For a good half hour we worked on our slides on this hill that is close to his house. I'm becoming more and more competent with my Coleman slides. After that we headed out this nice little foot path that snakes back and forth a few times. The pavement was sketchy at points, and it was narrow, but it was heaps of fun. My friend wound up getting launched off of his board superman style after he went off the path.
We decided to explore some of the other parts of the campus, and wound up by the student apartments. There were some nice sidewalks with sharp turns. I worked on my heel-sides while he worked on his toe-side. With more exploring, we found this awesome hairpin, that I was able to get all four wheels to drift through.
Since it was getting close to sunset, we decided that it was time to find something that he could heel side around. Boy did we find it. By the Mathematical Science Library, there is a steep path that makes a turn towards the bus stop. at the bottom of the turn, is some of the nastiest, cheese grater like aggregate sidewalk. There were also some big cracks. We worked our way up the hill, and man was it fun. I fell a couple of times while trying to slide out on the nasty sidewalk until I realized that there was smoother pavement after it.
All and all it was a great day, I'm now a lot more comfortable going drop knee into heel-side turns. My friend is also making progress with his turns and slides. The funny thing is that though he can pendy with competence, he is still struggling with Colemans.
