Longboard Cruisers, Carving, Commuting, Long Distance Pumping and BoardwalkingWhen it's all about the ride, the general discipline of riding a longboard.
poway pumphouse action with my 29 year old daughter and 18 year old son today! chrismas eve+eve
i set up the light-blue color course for my kids and we ran cones for about an hour. We cruised from the top to the bottom on an axe maximus and my daughter's new dialed in deck from richie carrasco sporting seismics and a skennett up front with pre-coned PP wheels.
my son ripped. dude is scaring me 2nd day and I would wager a guess in his age class he's near the top of the downhill already. he looks promising but he's stuck on finger-flips still and rightly so. the finesse of those riders is amazing but sometimes the 50 step rails and face planting is way too flipped out for me to comprehend. not everyone beefs it but the guys going for that feat have to eventually find more stable ground to deal with chronic pain. chronic pain is something some kids who feel they are invincible need to entertain as a potential before jumping off that cliff of desire.
a number of times when i first did tail drops into deep pools(1977) with very little transition i thought.. ok this is like jumping to the bottom but i'll have a skateboard under my feet and I need to react just as quick. a couple of times, dropping 8-10 ft and not landing "correctly" resulted in some body slam pain that required time away from the skateboard ! i think parts of my elbows and hips have some pain memory as I write this, i'm getting tweeks
riding skateboards is an experiential process and we all should know that evolution is in progress. people that appear to be lucid are often found with tunnel vision. all i can say iss the more people HATE, the more you can see they need the baby jesus on their side.
yikes! mari on her second outting caught on to the idea of staying low and lowering the back leg to make braking controlled turns. she caught on and had two breakthrough runs. it was a great day mostly cuz we knew rain tomorrow that has already started now
are there local garages to ride? i don't see driving that far when there has to be something nearer!

my girlfriend is out of the country so while she's gone i'm organizing a skate session EVERY DAY. So I'm not so lonely and I'm pre occupied.
However today I had a late night parking garage session (in my apartment's complex. gnarly!) on my lonesome and it was very zen. My manual finally clicked and I got to do a parking space

Got to ride around my cousin's place today. Nice blacktop driveway (nice and long) to cruise up and down and a couple parking areas to play in. Was a nice cruise, felt great to be on my shlong board again (been a while since I've rode it, rode the pin tail last). I went inside when my cold weather-induced ear-ache turned into a full blown headache though, was getting dark by then anyway. Relaxed at the party there the rest of the evening.
woot!!! I already accomplish one of my new year resolution!!! which is stand up toeside 180!!!!!
I went out today to check the lemons on my hellcat and I tried few times of toe side with hands down.
after I tried standing ups and it started to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!!!!!! this never happened before!!!! now I can do both side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WWWOOOOTTTT!!!
i know i just got BS a few days ago. what i did was do a few with my gloves down and then crouched down and wound up like i was gonna a normal one but just didn't put my hands down
Finally got a little corner transition at the local school wired on my pintail today. hit the thing probably 100 times, front side and back side. I've been trying to learn to work transitions like this for awhile, and it finally started to click today. 8)
it's my third day as an intern auditor i've been stuck in the most uncomfortable/painful shoes and awkward clothes I can't wait to get back and take my board out. even if it means ripping a hole in my pants if i fall and skating with bruises and cuts on my feet
I rolled to the Bank drive through, the corner store and to the local Auto title place to get new plates for my car that I obviously don't need.....all the time.
Cruised to my work place, popeyes, to drop off a christmas gift for my manager, then on the way home I took a longer route home to go by the park. I got home, and decided to try to learn the oldskool kickflip, and during a break I was on my board and was carving toe side when all the sudden....CALF CRAMP!!! My left calf cramped really bad and once it was over I limped inside to get some water and a banana, then went upstairs to my room.
I was sitting on the floor, legs extended, using my computer when out of nowhere my right calf cramped up really bad too. I massaged it, stretched it, then after I thought it was over, I went downstairs to get some more water and while I was filling a cup...you guessed it, another cramp. My right leg cramped up again, and felt just as bad as the other cramps.
Towards the end of the cramp on my right leg, I started feeling a lot of pain on my left leg. I looked at my foot, and my toes were curled and it was another cramp. At this point, I gave up on trying to shorten the cramp duration, and I just laid down on the floor and waited it out.
since winter is upon us, i can't skate outside. so, i took my 50 yr old dad to our church gymnasium and taught him to longboard....and he picked it up really well!!!! i made him some slide gloves and we're gonna learn to take turns with a hand down tomorrow.

Daily is a neighborhood cruise while giving the dog his run for the day, then back to the house where I continue the session with some short boarding. Garage and Speedboarding on the weekends, usually with a side order of skatepark or street (I am trying to improve before I get tooo old, he he).
