Longboard Cruisers, Carving, Commuting, Long Distance Pumping and BoardwalkingWhen it's all about the ride, the general discipline of riding a longboard.
Absolutely the best! Longest/most I've skated in one day yet. Five kids showed up and we surfed the hood for 6 hours rotating through a handful of boards I broke out. I haven't had this much pure fun since I can remember. :clap :
Oh and did some tweaks too. I was regretting ever ordering the power nose and jaw bones. Big 9" things didn't fit #### that I had. Or so I thought. Started with the 36 Poolking Resurrection. After drilling and mounting a jaw and bone, I let the kids go through the sticker collection and bling it up. Put some Gravity drifters on it and replaced the system skate bearings with MHS', spacers and speed rings. Suddenly this board (which I didn't really care for before) is now a cool ride and looks loved. Ok, so I grab the Landy Dragon which also has a tail and nose. It was the first board I ever ordered and had ordered it with Gumballs which resulted in wheelbite like a bitch which resulted in my sanding and polyurethaning some wells but still got some wheelbite and it had kind of sat neglected since. Mount the jaw/nose bones, replaced the gumballs with another set of them Gravity drifters, MHS' bearings and stuff. Let the crew do the sticker honors. COOL!! I had one more set of bones and put them on the new Ghoti Manatee. Took it for a test drive and in a real hard carve (luckily slow) I got wheelbite in the front and did my impression of a yard dart! Jumped up and walked back to the garage. Discovered I had one set of 1/4" Khiro risers and put them on. Problem solved and man... did I say how cool this board is.
I'm hoping for a long, dry summer!

Feels good to finally post on this thread, been lurking on it for quite some time now.
I bought my sector 9 Kommi yesterday at Cowtown and love it. I tightened it a bit when I bought it so it's not super loose, but I'm just so amazed on how smooth it is. It's so cool how far just one or two kicks will take you opposed to on a skateboard.
I bought it and went over to my friend's house and started off, was kind of surprised how fast the wheels got dirty haha. I don't think I'm supposed to keep those clean, am I o.O?
The beggining of the day wasn't as amazing as it could, I'm in Arizona and it was hot as hell. The bad part about it all it all is that my friend only has a skateboard, and it's hard for him to keep up / go long distances, especially on the road where there's no sidewalks. We did that for a while of switching back and forth and it got kind of annoying for him so we went back inside. I did a short cruise [Like maybe a mile] by myself down this nice bike path near his house, that was fun.
Then we rode over to a school that's about 3/4 mile away from his house, hopped the fence and started riding, was awesome. Super smooth sidewalks clear from any debris, but it was really hot so after about 30 minutes we headed back inside.
Around 9 or so I went out alone again [he was too tired] and the weather was amazingly perfect. It was bright enough for you to see perfectly but not bright enough to hurt your eyes, it was cool with occasional nice breeze, loved it, too bad it didn't last long.
Around 10 PM or so we rode to the Wendy's and got a bite to eat, then rode back, about 15 minutes later we decided to drive over to Little Ceaser's and get some pizza. [I eat a lotttttt for only weighing about 140 or so]. That's when fun started, from 10:30 till maybe 11:45 we were just riding around in the empty parking lot [there was 1 car in the corner] eating pizza. Was very fun.
If your friend has trouble keeping up with you, you could try and convince him to go to a skate shop and pick up some cheap soft wheels for his shortboard. My friend got some nine balls at our local skate shop a while ago for about $25 to put on his street deck. Smooth ride, and you can still pop ollies here and there.
Skated to the grocery today barefoot. When I walked in I got kicked out, though..haha
That's awesome Wendler! Don't you love how when you first start out you're willing to ditch friends to go skate :P I prefer to leave my wheels as is and leave them be dirty than rather have clean wheels and be called off as a poser. (I know a guy at my school who brings a longboard everyday but his wheels haven't even been broken in yet and have that shiny shiny gloss). Proof you ride it
As for me? I personally haven't been able to ride for a few days since I've been ill and recuperating and it's the last week of school. My (ONLY) longboarding buddy is moving away to Edmonton in a few days too so I'll have no one to skate with. My mom is also anal about me meeting some longboarders I got into contact in my city so...
Yea haha. I know you need to keep your trucks clean, but since it's dry as hell in Arizona, I don't think I'll be doing that often. [I don't go through puddles purposely or anything]
But, my grip tape got super dusty and I have some oil on it. I know this doesn't really matter but I like the board looking nice, any tips on cleaning that? No too sure if a cloth will work, nor compressed air etc.
Edit:
Chaunce, won't that give him wheelbite? Or will they still be small like skateboard ones?

Haha I didn't mean through puddles, more just that it's been ridden and a bit 'dusty'.
I'd scrub it vigorously with a toothbrush and a mild cleaner I suppose.

Depends on how low his setup is and how soft/hard his bushings are. The wheels my friend got were 65mm, and he never had a problem with them. I guess your friend could ask the people at the skate shop to try the wheels before buying. Just put them on the board and lean as hard as you can.
Another good day. Went up to the more desert-like places where the "rich people" live and did some downhill for the first time, very fun, very proud I didn't bail at all
Did some of that then did mild cruising down an angled road, ditched 1 of my friends [there was 4 of us total, 3 got in car and started driving back and forth around him]. Bad part is he actually darted out at the car while we were driving around and we kind of hit him, and he rolled off the side. lmao. He couldn't move his left arm for a while but he'll be fine, sprained wrist haha.
Overall fun day. Last day of riding till July 24rd
Well, I went to break in my lime bigzigs today. Didn't skate too long though, it was 90 degrees-ish. But i crossed paths with another random skater riding an evo like me, i thought that was kinda cool.
today was great found a new hill, rode it, got someone to skitch me and friends up, repeated, danced, relaxed... i just wish it was a little longer, we were probably only outside for 2.5 hours...

Yesterday I went to go bomb a hill, and it will probably be pretty mediocre for some of you, but to me it was pretty big. I started going down, then i started to get those gosh darn speed wobbles and soon worked out how to cure them...
Then out of the blue, my board flys out from under me, and i was going at a decent speed, i flew off and got this massive thing of road rash on my upper thigh! ouch
So today I came back to that hill and thought, I'm gonna do this. So i went down and decided to be smart and carve it a little and tada! I'm at the bottom feeling stoked!!
I was riding with one of my friends and he tried to jump off of his board over a chain that was hanging between two posts and land back on his board. He was going about 10 mph and caught his foot and landed flat on his face, funniest thing I've ever seen.
Fun stuff just practising. I have my cross steps, walk the planks, peter pans. counter clockwise step rotation down confidently and I'm starting to style them now.
Working on toe side cross steps & back, clockwise turn steps, nose manuals, 180 nose pivots, tiger claws and guillotine tricks.
skating was fun today/ but nearly as good as the 7 foot waves here in coronado.... zomg great day
