Question Need help choosing a board, apex or dervish any other suggestions will be appreciated

Hi, i'm relatively new to longboarding and am looking for a good all around board, mostly for just commuting around town although there are a few large hills in my area so im hoping to get a board that can handle them.

I am about 5'9 and only weigh around 130 lbs, im not the greatest boarder but I can certainly get around, and I am a quick learner.

I think ive come down to either the Apex or the Dervish but I am open to any suggestions for boards around that price range. I would also like your opinion on whether the apex 34 or the 37 would be better for me if you think that would be a good choice at all.

Im going to have to be traveling pretty far around town so i need something that can maintain alot of momentum and get me going pretty fast.

Im mostly just looking for the pros and cons of the apex and the dervish because many of the reviews i have read havent been much help and just talk about how great they are. I am open to any of your opinions and would really appreciate any help.

The biggest difference between your options are the trucks. Original trucks are just so different. If you plan to carve a lot, go with the Apex. I started on an Original deck and I don't think I'll ever buy anything else.

A note before anyone says it, Originals are not downhill boards. At the same time, S8s or S10s aren't that bad on hills. Everyone will talk about how turny the trucks are, but most forget the fact that the trucks also want to return to center.

I guess what I'm saying is really your question should be whether you want regular longboard trucks or Original trucks.

So I went down to my local board shop today and checked out the dervish flex 1, and i gave it a quick test ride, i really liked the flex even though it was the stiffer version of the board. I did not like the 400 dollar price tag however. I tried out the pintail which also had a nice flex but I found it a little too short for what Im looking for. I was wondering if anyone knows of a board that is still has a good flex to it and has the length of the dervish ( around 40"). The original trucks are kind of turning me off of the apex.

Take a look at the Never Summer Heist and the 09 Landyachtz dropcarve. Both are symetrical drop through flexy boards.

Sounds like the Legendary Demon with the dropthru mount is exactly what you're looking for. I've ridden a bunch of demons(friends with owners/builders of Legendary) and it is truly an amazing all around/freeride deck. It is not nearly as flexy as a loaded, but if you shoot them an email prior to ordering, they can help you out on flex options, as each board is made to order.

R.I.P. draft or pass. You were a monument to Silverfish.

does anyone know what the flex is like on the bustin strike cause I'm leaning towards that board since the dervish is so expenisve and the shipping rates aren't too expensive . I just don't really know what the flex is like and I don't want it to be stiff. I should probably mention that I live in Ontario canada so some board companies charge too much for shipping. the strike seems like what I want. Just worried that it will be too stiff since I only weigh 130 after a heavy meal
