Heist is an excellent board, I highly recommend it. I also suggest the Comet FSM. While it's not flexy, I can still carve mine fine. The design makes slides really easy. However it's a stiff board ( but this allows you to bomb hills ).

Re: first-timer needs all-around board
switch is out, too small. im still trying to decide so i could use some more opinions. im now looking mainly at the dually and the heist, but im just having a tough time deciding. i want to figure this out soon, so that i can get it bought, and have something to do over the summer.
and would the dually be any good for carving?

not too sure, there's a review up in general longboarding, I'd ask that guy.
but I've been thinking that the dually with some harder wheels might make a fun drifty deck.

Re: first-timer needs all-around board
For flats you may want a flexy board then so you can get some pop from the deck for pumping. The Heist would be your better bet so you can learn some tricks ( which would be harder to do on the dually. The dually would be better for commuting though as it's lower to the ground.
