Re: Original Set Ups
I may actually be getting a terrapin very soon, hooray!
Iwas wondering if the people in here who have terrapins or who have used one can quickly just comment about your weight and how flexy the board was. Thanks guys!

Re: Original Set Ups
Are you sure Originals wont be too hard on your ankles.
At speed you dont need to move your ankles too much but when carving on flats alot of the work comes from your ankle movement. I would consider this before you buy.
Also, are you sure you want a terrapin? The only Issue i have with it is that its limited in wheel size (62mm) but big in foot space (which is good).
I like big wheels myself which is why i got the derringer and there are some nice 60mm wheels out there (OJ, Tunnels, 3DM) but its gonna be a bit of a rougher ride depending on where your gonna ride.

I'm thinking/hoping it will be ok for my ankles. I really dont forsee much of a problem, but if there is one we'll approach this when we come to it.
The main reason Im getting the terrapin is cause I'm getting a great deal on it, besides I really want something with a wide platform for ankle stability and room to put my big feet.
I dont think the terrapin having 62 mm wheels will matter too much, I'll keep in mind what terrain I'll be riding, and use my superglider for the rougher terrain.

I'm super stoked for my next purchase. I'm going to get an Apex 37 with 83a Zigzags. I can't wait for the thing. I just wish the snow would go away so I don't have to spend 4 months looking at the thing.

Re: Original Set Ups
Just wondering if anyone has put 63mm wheels on their terrapin? Original reccomends no bigger than 62mm for wider wheels.

I'm pretty sure Original has left more than 1mm of safety margin in their recommendation. You'll be fine.
.
Why are you reading my sig? It's boring.

I personaly dont realy trust their wheel size recomendations. They say that a malakai with s8's can have like 85 mm wheels or something but my friend can get wheel bite with 76 big zigs.

I think that the wheel sizes listed on their page are the maximum possible, disregarding shape. Like, they might be talking about a really narrow or side-set wheel when they say 85mm, and bigzigs are offset.
I was having a similar problem with my approx. 65mm centerset wheels on my apex 34, and I just stacked a bunch of washers up on the axles to move the wheels farther away from the edge of the deck.

Re: Original Set Ups
I just purchased an Apex 37, heavyweight flex and although I havnen't ridden it much, I can say I will never get rid of this thing! It's my first REAL longboard! And it rides like none of the other boards I used to borrow and ride from my buddies. (all S9s)
Apex 37 (heavyweight flex)
Paris 180 trucks (stock bushings I believe)
Otang 4 Prez wheels
Bones Super Swiss 6 Ball Bearings
My wheels are almost ready to be replaced I think. I got them from the previous owner, but they still have a little life left.
Anyone have any suggestion for my next wheels? I want something that will still carve a grip well, but at the same time maintain and gather speed.

Try some Lime zigzags or bigzigs. Depending on your weight you may want to try the lemons instead.

^Thanks a lot Mynuss!
Yeah...I weigh between 175-180, and you read my mind when it came to the ZigZags. I have been eying them for a while. It's so hard when your as new as I am and becoming versed on all the aspects (brands, duro, size) of wheels. I have been researching for a good couple of months, so I'm getting there.
I was thinking of sticking with something between an 80a-83a. I'll probably just go with the yellows and see if I can make them last a bit longer than the Limes might.

Re: Original Set Ups
What wheels whould you guys reccomend for the terrapin?
I want the 3dm cambria 62mm, but thoe are pricey.
Here;s the choices:

The softies are cheap....but I dont know much about them. I can get bearings and spacers with the bennets from MHS....

Re: Original Set Ups
I don't wanna be a buzz killington but I don't like the terrapin much. It's basically a dead flex, it sits flat when unused and sort of just gives in. I stood on a dervish once and liked that much more as far as flex goes, so I think the apex would be a solid comparison.
I also don't like it because it's flex makes pumping more work, since it doesn't add any pop at all you have to force it pretty hard to get it going. Now I'm sure some people like this board, it's just not for me. I love my hybrid. It turns incredibly sharp, it holds 75mm wheels with no problem, and it's rock solid.
Path 37 might not be a bad choice either, but you're saying you're getting a deal? If you're buying off someone i'd recommend doing your damndest to try it out.
