Torpedo 40?
Ok, so i'm new to this site and i have no idea if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. So i'm currently riding a sector 9 scarab and i also have a sector 9 cosmic weave. I really, REALLY enjoy carving and just cruising around my neighbor and the near by down down. I do hit some smaller hills near by every once in a while and i mean small. So i'm looking for a new board. The torpedo 40 by original boards has really caught my attention. I just want some opinions from personal experience on this board. I'm not a big fan of major flex. Does the board have a lot of flex? How well does it carve with the S8 trucks? Can it handle "smallish" hills? I know it's great for around town cruising. Any help is definitely greatly appreciated! Thanks!

just my opinion, though, i'm sure they'd play different under some other people feet.

Re: Torpedo 40?
I have had my Torpedo for about 3 weeks and I love it. It was my first board and it is great for carving. I have S8's on it and they are sick and great for taking small hills. I have the stock wheels but they still feel great and give grip and a little slide. I enjoy it very much and it has a sick graphic.

Re: Torpedo 40?
I've been riding a Torpedo as my main board for about 6 months. I love it, but I wouldn't recommend it to you because you said you didn't like a lot of flex. The Torpedo has huge flex. For you, I'd recommend the Malakai. It should be stiffer than the Torpedo.
The Malakai 40 Longboard by Original Skateboards
For a 40" board I think you're correct to go with S8s. I have S10s on my Torpedo and I think it's probably a little overkill, although don't get me wrong, it's a fun ride.
Finally, make sure to upgrade at least the bearings to the Cell Swiss when you order. A wheel upgrade isn't a bad idea either.
Hope this helps.

Re: Torpedo 40?
I actually looked into the malakai 40 but my only setback is that it's a pintail. I already own a 40 inch pintail from S9. I really want a longer board with a kick tail and not too expensive. I'm about 5' 11, 175 pounds any suggestions?

Re: Torpedo 40?
I pretty much ride nothing but Original, so I'm not sure what else I can tell you. But, here's a bump in case anyone else has any ideas.

Well I'm exactly sure what to look for when looking for park riding. As for the carving, they'll carve great. For your size I'd probably recommend the Malakai or the Custom 45. I can attest to the Custom 45 being a great board. The only reason I wouldn't recommend the Torpedo is because of the huge amount of flex. I'm about 200 pounds and it's noticable. My friend who's about 250 or so has bottomed it out on hard carves.
This is a boring video, but you'll recognize the Torpedo by the huge flex. Check around 1:38 or 3:40 for an idea.

Thanks man, When i was watching the video i noticed how forest's torpedo was flexing, and yea it does look like a bit too much. Looking at the malakai and the custom 45, i can say that i am officialy saving up for the 45. Thanks for the recomendation!

That looks like a fun hill. You should slide the heck out of it

Re: Torpedo 40?
a friend of mine has the torpedo as his first board and i think he likes it alot. it does have quite a bit of flex and does tend to bottom out if your hopping on it but other then that its a solid cruising/carving board. deffinately stick with the s8 or s6 trucks. also i ride the hybrid 35 and i love it but it wouldnt fill your needs. but still... an awesome deck.
