upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
well i was considering getting a new board (dervish possibly) before going off to college, but after trying my friends vanguard/ceviche i realized that i really like my kracked skulls M1 a lot. BUT, i'm not feeling great about the bushings and wheels
right now i have Randal180's with the stock red bushings. i've been riding my trucks increasingly loose, and they don't feel so great. taking into consideration that i know nothing about bushings, any suggestions? i mainly cruise/dance, with occasional carving.
and wheels...well i found that while riding the vanguard (which had these monstrous white wheels), i could do stand-up slides a lot easier than on my M1, which has 77mm strikers. sometimes i'll be going pretty fast down a hill or whatever, and i can't speed check. scary. so less grippy wheels? the main issue is that the M1(supposedly) has a limited selection of wheels that can be used with it, because of the shape of the cut-outs. the strikers work (again, supposedly) only because they are side set and have rounded edges. but i'd be willing to go smaller, if it meant better sliding.

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
i'm a real newb myself, but i think flashbacks in a high duro might be good at sliding...
edit: and i believe flywheels are good at sliding too, but aren't a very soft ride because of the core.

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
Ok so i think you can liven up your bushings by taking the tall cone ( its probably the one on bottom) and putting that on top and the smaller cone on bottom. If your going to get new bushings i would suggest these
KHIRO ALUMINUM INSERT BUSHINGS (This one is nice because you dont need washers there already in the bushing! and i think its guarenteed not to blow out.)
or these

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
i think the M1 can go up to 72 or something like that, if that's the case, get some lemon freerides, they're round lipped so they slide well, those monstrous white wheels you were talking about were possible 3dm Avila's or Avalon's or Cambria's. if you want a good blend between grip and slip, zig zags work, any of the otangs work well as well, but remember that a round lipped wheel will slide easier than a square lipped wheel. and don't try sliding a square lipped until you've broken it in first or you'll encounter a nasty stop. I've also heard that gravity drifters are quite a good freeride wheel although they wear quite quickly

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
Dude I'm rockin Randall RII 180s as well but with the yellow bushings. They are off chops. The best. Super responsive and zero wheelbite. I can bomb down hills, I ride with loose truck and at 70-80km/h no speed wobbles. I have 76mm Gumballs 81a. They grip when I want them to and they slide when I want them to. They really are the best. Get some I highly recommend em.

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
well the yellow freerides are looking pretty good...i'm on milehighskates right now and looking at bushings, and it seems like i get the most choice in the khiro double barrels...can these be used with randals? and should i get the white (extra soft) or the orange (soft)?

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
Buy reflex double barrels in 83a or 80a
At the top of a hill at a very rapid speed there's only one place to go.
At the top of a hill at a very high speed there's nowhere to go but down.

And if you want good slide wheels, get some stimulus, or fat frees.

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
hmm...the stimulus look interesting. but expensive.
i'm not really looking for sliding wheels, if that's what the stimulus is...i want a good carving setup, but be able to standup slide on easily...so i guess a balance between the two.

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
i asked william from kracked skulls about the orangatang line, and he says they are all center-set, while the M1 really needs side-set wheels. well they don't look exactly center-set from the pictures, so it's hard to say. maybe i'll post this on the big kracked skulls thread...
exploring the orangatangs, it looks like i could use either the 4presidents or the fat free's, which are both 83a. the durians look good but i'm pretty sure i'd get wheelbite...the fat frees sound most suited to what i want, but they're 65mm...the 4presidents are 70mm, but they have square edges...argh
that aside, the pink powerballs are the same duro as my strikers, which i find hard to slide...taking that into account, would powerballs be better for sliding?

Re: upgrading setup - wheel/bushing question
sweet, the orangatang stimulus wheels just got in at milehighskates. expensive, and i'll have to wait until a check comes in. but they look good.
um and if i order there, it looks like my best bet for bushings would be 78a holey's...are these ok for randals? the top bushing is a cone, and the bottom is hourglass-ish (not sure if that's what you meant, jar5173).
